In partnership with IBM, Intelligence Squared U.S. is hosting a unique debate between a world-class champion debater and an AI system. IBM Project Debater is the first AI system designed to debate humans on complex topics using a combination of pioneering research developed by IBM researchers, including: data-driven speechwriting and delivery, listening comprehension, and modeling human dilemmas.
First debuted in a small closed-door event in June 2018, Project Debater will now face its toughest opponent yet in front of its largest-ever audience, with our own John Donvan in the moderator’s seat. The topic will not be revealed to Project Debater and the champion human debater until shortly before the debate begins.

Such a lively debate and very compiling argument put forth by IBM’s debate AI ‘Project Debater’.
Moving in a great direction but still needs a little work with speech verbalization.

Project Debater is hard to hear for the first minute or so in this video, something is off with the sound quality. The video posted by IBM Research (https://youtu.be/-d4Uj9ViP9o) fixed this, as well as a glitch in the sound during her rebuttal. The videos are otherwise practically identical, so I would recommend watching the one from IBM instead of this one.

That was underwhelming!! The Project Debater shows no signs of sophisticated intelligence at all. It just behaves like a news aggregrator that is a simple text to speech converter of a simple google academic search on the topic of pre-school advantages.
The rebuttals are laughably inept and for the next two segments it just keeps reiterating the same points.
This turns no new stone. This machine just aggregrates scholarly papers on the topic.

IA wont the debate. Becouse it say is goes BILLOND MONEY FORM..!!!.she didnt mean necesary tax money we have pay to subcidice. Pre school. And enfatice the moral..! There is no tax to subsidice more moral mind ship on our kid. You cant change money for moral. But tax concep core is diferent. Is a kind of cuture value. There should be AI oversight for politicans by using this tech to fact check. No bias. All machine.
Preschool for children in underprivileged conditions – good idea. Otherwise: Not! It would severely cut into children's freedom and happpiness. If your parents do a decent job, you don't need preschool and can enjoy your childhood. My happy and free childhood contributed a lot to my overall happiness in life. – By the way, the AI did a great job to the extent that it's scary.
How is it that IBM can be build an Artificially Intelligent computer to competitively debate the world's best debater, but they can't plug its audio outputs directly into the livestream feed?
I have to give it to the human on this one. But the fact that this machine can debate like this is very impressive. The icon could use some work though compared to the wattson icon it doesn’t look that visually appealing. But that doesn’t really matter to much
I like how the panel on the right side of the stage is all using Macs but have the apple logo covered with tape, thats hilarious.
it's a losing game for the AI because humans are a creature of emotions.
Project debator missed most the nuance in the debate
"you dont give money to pre schools because the middle class puts their kids in pre school anyway and you dont give money to those who are best off" this kid is big dumb

This AI is super socialist, Its hard to believe that its natural.
The AI is arguing the benefits of preschool the whole time and does not respond to the argument that preschool would only benefit those who already go. Also, the AI talks about "poor boys" falling behind. What about girls?

And she should speak slower..
Things are realy going to be interesting when Project Debater gets an actual human body and starts talking using body language also……
