Oil Painting Tips – Paint Sunflowers in a Field – Painted Alla Prima in Less than 3 hours. Want some tips about oil painting sunflowers? Using one of the videos from our Master Oil Painting Membership library I show you how I paint loose Impressionist style sunflowers in a field.

Learning to oil paint sunflowers with feeling and energy is something anyone can learn to do. In this video, I share the painting techniques and art principles I use to create loose colorful sunflowers that look natural and realistic without being overly tight and photographic.

This painting was completed with an alla prima or wet-on-wet approach. It was completed in a little under 3 hours. The techniques and tips discussed can be used equally for plein air painting as well as for painting in your studio from photographs and outdoor studies.

I also did a blog post about painting the full video called 7 Easy Steps You Need to Paint a Dazzling Sunflower Field that you can find here: https://www.masteroilpainting.com/7-easy-steps-to-paint-a-dazzling-field-of-sunflowers-in-impressionistic-loose-style-with-oil-paint/

This sunflower field was one of many that surrounded the town where I completed my MFA. I often drove out to watch the sunflowers follow the sun from early morning to late afternoon.
