Pokemon and Semiotics – Explaining Tools in Media (in this case Pokemon Cards) Analysis

MyManJustin’s Collectible Emporium

My name is Justin and I am a UC Berkeley trained Media Analyst and cosmological Physicist who owns a Pokémon, collectibles and consulting business called Mymanjustins Collectible Emporium.

In this video, I talk about some of the theoretical frameworks I learned which studying Media at UC Berkeley which I use to do analysis on Pokémon cards in my “Pokémon Metaphysics and Philosophy” series videos. Here, I talk about the theory of media analysis known as “Semiotics” based on the work by Roland Barthes and give a general breakdown on how to use semiotics to analyze Pokémon cards, and by extension, any media form. I also give some insight by the media scholars Marshall McLuhan “The Medium is the Message” and Stuart Hall “Encoding/Decoding” which I delve further into on later videos.

If you are interested in selling your collection, I would love to talk about striking a deal. Leave a comment or message me on my Instagram at “mymanjustins_collectibles”
