Post-War modernism. Garden Design – LASD Studio

LASD Studio

Postmodernism is a movement that represent time of the mid-to-late 20th century across philosophy, the arts and architecture.

In the garden architecture, exterior space, landscape architecture and urban design this idea represents clean lines, seeing space (void) as unconditional value of the design. It is a soft balance between freedom of mind and artistic representation of elements. Such a principle in architecture reminds us – we have more by having less.

Here are main characteristics of Postmodern architecture:
* Clean, minimal business of lines providing peace of mind;
* Large windows, or walls of glass when needed;
* Open space, and well defined architecture;
* A clear relationship with interior – exterior spaces;
* Asymmetrical design (as we moved away from renaissance);

While it is also included technics in a design as:
* bright colors in order to emphasize important of clarity of space;
* Playful elements, as an accent for the pleasure of eyes;
* Variety of materials and shapes, still be in balanced combination with each other.

Current proposal is residential garden design in San Diego, California.
It is rather a combination of contemporary and post-war modernism rather then pure philosophical essence of one or another.

One of the main elements of the design is butterfly garden. A healing experience of nature as a wild garden is often used in post-war period of garden architecture.
