QF72 | Hero pilot Kevin Sullivan's quick thinking saves 315 people | Sunday Night

True Stories

It’s the most terrifying mid-air emergency in Australian aviation history – flight QF72’s autopilot tried to kill all 315 people on board. They were only saved by the quick thinking of Captain Kevin Sullivan – so why has Qantas refused to give him and the crew the recognition they deserve?

Please make sure you sign Fuzzy’s petition so the crew get the recognition they deserve. https://www.change.org/p/qantas-group-forgotten-heroes-of-qantas-flight-qf72

  1. This is why i love Qantas and am so happy to be from the same county as Qantas, they're worst accident is one that isn't even a crash and it only injured 100 people, safe af

  2. Man even my RC plane has a feature to disable the autostabilization. You would think on multimillion aircraft they would give much more manual control compared to a toy.

  3. Soon in the future with semi and full autonomous vehicles (especially when out of warranty)….

Self Driving Car: I am putting on the brakes

Driver: No no.. we are on a freeway with clear traffic and braking is dangerous

Self Driving Car: I will save you with braking

Driver: There is a 20 ton B double behind us!!!

  4. Have just seen the vid about QF72. To Capt K. Sullivan, Sir I salute you for what you and you crew managed to achieve under a very difficult situation.
Your courage and military training saved so many people. You all deserve to be honoured for your heroic efforts.

  5. May God Bless Captain Sullivan..And May God Bless His Crew and of Course All Of The Passengers..!!! God, Please wave your wing over FUZZY..He is a good man dealing with a tremendous amount of pain..!!! Please get well Fuzzy..!!! Qantas needs to be ashamed of this story…Bastards..!!!

  6. There should be a petition to allow Fuzzy to get the same compensation as the other passengers. What a sweet and humble man. 🧡

  7. If this is how Qantas treats its people no more flights from me. Obviously don't work for Qantas they are scum.Lost the plot. Pathetic.

  8. I just watched this at 3:30am and was riveted! Captain Sullivan your aeronautical skills are nothing short of Brilliant and I look forward to reading your book. I truly hope you will fly again. You your crew and the passengers are true heroes. I wish all of you the best in your healing processes.

  9. why can we not have a master DIS arm? this would forbid ANY automated control over the air craft in times when the automation is the result of you being in trouble.

  10. Jesus. I just read Fuzzy had a daughter a year or two ago who was struck by a motorist and she requires 24hr care from brain injuries. How fkn unfair is life? And he got nothing? God, I hope he has been compensated and isn't struggling financially. Last thing he needs. Absolute bullshit on Qantas' part. Pretty skummy.

  11. There is always a strange force trying to bring down a Qantas because of their impeccable commercial record. They have never lost an aircraft.
