This is exactly what Lord Buddha predicted about consciousness. According to him reality and the universe are like dreams created by our consciousness. Without a conscious observer reality doesn't exist. This is proven by how atoms exist as waves without a conscious observer and stabilise when their is one. It seems the very fabric of the universe is dependent upon the consciousness which may predate the formation of life and possibly the universe too.

This model proposes that consciousness originates from a uniform conscious field that permeates the universe. Brains act as receivers that interact with this field and locally modulate (texturize) it with sensory information. Conscious experience (awareness of self) emerges from this interaction. Additional inputs from structural (neurochemical) brain systems for memory, reasoning, and action further shape the experience of self.
Core Components
The Conscious Field
The conscious field is a uniform, pervasive substrate that exists throughout the universe. It is featureless in its resting state, but locally configurable. When a sufficiently organized biological system—such as a brain—interacts with the field, it modulates a portion of it. This modulation textures the field, giving rise to awareness and the sense of self.
The Receiver (Brain)

I have made the same conclusion recently but decided to happily remain within the social structure I live in rather than dissociate from it. Plus the spiritual aspect of this is separate from the science which allows me to understand but watch on without immersion..
