When we think about symmetry, the first thing that comes to mind is mirror symmetry. Butterflies, Rorschach tests, and classically attractive faces all look the same when flipped left-to-right. In physics, a symmetry is when the laws of physics are unchanged due to some transformation of coordinates. We’ve seen examples where it is – the universe is symmetric to coordinate shifts in space, time, and even the rather abstract phase of the wave function. So it might be surprising to learn that with all the weird ways in which the universe IS symmetric, it’s NOT entirely symmetric under this most intuitive one. The laws of physics work differently in the universe of the mirror.

This is why I enjoy a difficult time flying inverted in GTA. The controls/buttons remain in the exact same place on the controller while I'm trying to reverse expected action play, yet get confused sometimes when the plane goes the opposite direction as expected.

Couple years late to this video, but how nice to see a shout out to Isaac Arthur! He's amazing! Initial coincidence aside, he's one of my favorite science/futurology/sci-fi minds, next to Isaac Asimov. I get so lost in his videos, much like I do in your wonderful space time videos. Hah, for some reason this just makes my day. Go Isaac!

Fun fact. Fundamental particles don't have reflections so they technically can't be reversed in a mirror. Does that mean you can't quantize parity?
Parody violation from the Cobalt nucleus made me think of a universe where if you look in the mirror and fart you see your reflection burp
