Roger Penrose: Roger Penrose is an English mathematical physicist, mathematician and philosopher of science. He is Emeritus Rouse Ball Professor of Mathematics in the University of Oxford and Emeritus Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford. He is author of The Road to Reality: A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe, a comprehensive guide to the Laws of Physics, as well his own theory on the Penrose Interpretation.

  1. in universe main power is conciousness of unconciousness

knowledge captived by conciousness of conciousness is very limited in universe

because universe is dominated and fonctioned by the language of conciousness of unconciousness that conciousness of conciousness is yet doesnt know this language

the solution is to invent the physics of metaphysics

  2. It is really strange that he who talks about science denies the existence of himself "self-concept" and they are ignorant of its essence. Some of the simple people "so-called scientists " are marketing quantum physics as deities. The self-concept is the same as the so-called soul, and it is an advanced coding system which works in the background, that has nothing to do with religion and the gods.
everything ib this existence is governed by science nothing else, no science no existence.
rebuilding exact sciences is essential taking in consideration that time is just human concept, it does exist but created through many cosmological and living beings participate in this processes….

  3. Good ol Mr. Dr. Professor Sir Roger Penrose…. If it where not for This man i would have never learned to play pinochle or Bridge for that matter.

  4. If you can have any scale piece, you can tile the plane with no repetitions with any shape, its kind of trivial. Obviously not the same problem, but its kind of related

  5. The Angels and Demons represent the surface of a black hole where information is stored? Then information should be stored infinitely at the atomic level too? Where there is Infinitude there is multiplicity (parallel universe) No Beginning or end?

  6. Sir Roger Penrose is absolutely right, conscious must be.a quntam process, as it involves nonlocality as it experiences multillocal perception simultaneously..

  7. Roger Penrose is an amazing mathematician, scientist and thinker, but that business about a chess engine not being able to win from a position produced by him is simply false and has nothing to do with AI. In his criticism of people telling him that they could program an engine that beats that position, because they are just infusing the computer with their own knowledge, he is actually also levying criticism to himself, as a chess engine is nothing else in the first place than an infusion of human knowledge about chess into a program, so in essence his position is just showing up what the people that made the chess didn't consider. I would enjoy seeing Roger Penrose create an equivalent position in Go with the same effect on AlphaGo.

  8. i for get which book, but i remember seeing one of escher's illustrations when i was quite young, it's appealing to think penrose found inspiration for maths and science as i did, i just wish i had his capability. i didn't realise ryan reynolds was so interested in science and philosophy.

  9. where is my comment? I suggest a new direction for resolving those basic problem in quantum mechanics. you can disagree with me, but I hope you keep my opinion here.

  10. For me the most interesting part of this talk is the idea that intuition is a type of transcendental logic that allows you to understand the truths that govern rules. Or put another way, you could say it allows for the understanding of why a given set of rules are true.

If humans are capable of that kind of thinking, then I would say it has probably been used in some form by the greatest minds to learn about the fundamental truths of reality.

  11. Consciousness was there even before this universe existed. It will be there when this universe ends. This universe and each particle is a manifestation of that consciousness, including humans. We as humans and other species are simply aware of this universe at a mental level through sensory organs and our mind to interpret that awareness. We only have to learn to shut down our external senses and focus all attention within ourselves to access and experience that consciousness. That's when we become one with the whole cosmos and every other being, because all of us are one and the same.

  12. Every time someone criticize him for the Gödel argument, and explain why, I always think: ok they absolutely don't understand what Roger Penrose really is saying (^_-)

  13. Roger is an aspiring biocentrist. One missing link is that his assertion that the universe was here before consciousness is an example of the so called two realities, where the universe involves time (beginning and ending), where consiousness is timeless.

  14. Very astute observation. The aspect of quantum mechanics that is not quite right (things being in two places at the same time) is tied in with consciousness.

I have some ideas about how exactly this is to be explained. The problem with quantum mechanics is that you think in terms of particles rather than waves. The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle for example is describing uncertainty about possible particle position and momentum. If instead you take the quantum wave function to be describing a real physical wave then it is only at the point of observation or measurement that the act of observing commits the wave to one position or another in a prababilistic way.

Now recognising that it is the active role of the detector that is key to understanding the outcome of an experiment, this can be applied to the ability of the brain to control its own focus of attention which is the key to consciousness.

  15. Thank you for doing this I really appreciate it Penrose. Always lovely to listen to his exquisite and beautifully explained genius on stage. He seems to get better and better with age all the best! Always gives me a smile and giggle too haha. He’s not unpopular he’s misunderstood you numpty
