  1. I hate how everyone is being "schooled or humiliated" in the titles of youtube… Most of them are just a chat between two smart people

  2. So many addicts turn to religion to fill the hole that they used to fill with their addiction. It's often a blind grasping instead of a researched understanding. It's a step up from their old addiction but it's still fictional.

  3. Russel Brand has a faster working brain and processing, and the speed of the processing has a set back, he seems to repeat same idea that he knows viscerally and will consider schemas that are related to it and will find links to that, which is fair enough I guess .
Sam Harris has the slower thinking and more processing required brain, good thing is, more possibilities and concepts can be considered and thought of deeply, but set back is the speed of sharing the ideas.

Really enjoyed listening to different characters interact like that.

Was kind of frustrating to have Brand interrupt Harris’ train of thought and expression, purely because Russell’s brain is functioning on higher speed and cannot bare to wait till the end to learn what Sam has to say, and quickly jumps to assumptions and interrupts, without hearing the whole thing and then learning what Sam was talking about.

Both men are mentally adequate and this pod cast was great. So many good things were talked about. Just would have liked Brand to hold his horses on the verbally elaborate labyrinth of intellectual words, just couple of times, so we could hear Sam on the subject and finish without getting dragged into alternative subject.

  4. What's in a mind?
    Self evidently, nothing but ideas.
Therefore, everything you see, hear, smell, feel, etc.
must be ideas in your mind
else you wouldn't, couldn't, know them.
Our idea of matter must therefore be synthesized by our minds based on all that input.
    To call matter 'reality',
even as we know that matter is a product synthesized by thinking,
    has to be an error.
Thus, the only reality that deserves the name must be ideas.
And yet the faith we have that matter is somehow 'real' is hard to shake
I think because we cannot walk through walls except in dreams and movies.

  5. 27:33 – “it’s bad ideas that are immune to criticism” – Sam Harris

Sam, you smuggled your god in right there, you asked for a miracle, and Russell granted it. How are you able to distinguish a good idea, from a bad idea. Of course we can distinguish btw two ideas, outcomes, actions, etc. but once we do, how do we know which is good and which is bad, without making an undergirding assumption.

Sam’s miracle is to be granted this assumption. From there, his religion is born and takes shape, ultimately forming into a god that embodies the values that uphold the value system that flows from that assumption perfectly.

  6. Listening to Russel Brand is tiring. He regurgitates the same vague college freshman anti-capitalist, new age rhetoric wherever he goes.

  7. Sam Harris: "Everyone wants an I-phone, right?" Wrong. This lame comment of his, to me, shows just how self-important and materialistic this egotistical Sam Harris truly is.

  8. What a cheapness! Totally incorrect title to 'prove' some point? How can Sam Harris 'school' anyone on consciousness when he himself hardly knows anything about it.

  9. All life is infinite awareness it's like a bath tub full of water if you take a drop of water that drop is the individual consciousness but is still connected. They have ruined our brains with chemicals and we have lost the tools needed to connect back to the source. The truth is within don't look externally for saviour it's the Christ (light) within. Meditate stay loving and treat people fairly and most importantly stay healthy by eating right.

  10. Lol, sam Harris used his gift of consciousness to rob himself and other rational people of their own souls. Sounds like a waste of imagination to me, but please carry on. I a, so happy sam Harris cant get enough of his own voice. God is great.

  11. Maybe you should go to school so that you can understand what ‘schooled’ means. Russell is such an open human being, I’ve never seen him stand in opposition to someone or something. He merely wishes to understand.
