“Franklin’s Brain” by Scott Quinn
Franklin’s Brain is a short, character driven sci-fi about an individual desperate to find meaning in his life, many years after his death.
Set late in the 21st Century, reclusive Tom lives and works alone on a small scrap yard; his only companion, Franklin, is a box containing the thoughts and memories of a man born 1990. Obsessed by the mystery of his own death, Franklin asks Tom to dig up his bones where a clue to his death may lie. The desperate search to find meaning in our lives is explored through the dysfunctional, yet co-dependent, friendship between the two hopeless outsiders’ story.

"Thank you Tom" . . . . . A poignant and sad tale of two frustrated broken people . . . . . Wonderfully done, superbly acted: a tale to be savored and reflected on.

WE never really get any explanation to the voice in the box … it feels yet again as something the creators in their minds find cool, but for us viewers is just … wierd and making the film pointless and not something I would watch again or remember even in a day.

The franklin box reminds me of an episode of (i think) the outer limits where a lady transfers her old dying husband's brain into a box lol.

This one gets better with every viewing. The acting is magnificent. The story of regret and wondering supported by a loyalty between the 2 friends is marvelous. I am happy and sad at the same time as it concludes. The ending with Franklin's closing words is one of the most poignant things I have seen in some time.

This is what the genre low budget Indie films should aspire to. A box with a speaker and a light bulb becomes a believable functioning preserved brain of the character Franklin…quite the self absorbed prick I might add!
