Our speech language therapist in a speech therapy session on how to conduct a reading comprehension classroom hands-on activity. Road-tested through her experience with hundreds of children with different learning disabilities, these tips are little snippets of what she finds works best.

Lengthy math problem sums can be made interesting when done in a story telling fashion. Adjustments can be made to the problem sum to make it more interesting to the children. e.g. Adding a family scenario of ‘Mummy’ giving cupcakes to her children.

The activity can be made more fun by adding the use of props or objects the child favours. e.g. Puppets, toys, candies.

Using the Magic word ‘Before’

Some examples of sentences used in the video are:
Before you eat, wash your hand. (Do not get confuse with eat four)
Go and wash your hand before you eat
I wash my hand before i eat my cupcakes

Before you eat, you wash your hands means the same as you wash your hands before you eat.
In other words, what you see (hear) is what you do. You wash your hands first and then you eat.

When you hear before you need to wait.
Eg. Before you eat, you wash your hands
We wash our hands before we eat.
