Boston Dynamics

Code & Circuit, a non-profit organization based in Amesbury, MA, is a place where kids can use technology to create, collaborate, and learn! Spot is a central part of their program, where educators use the robot to get younger participants excited about STEM fields, coding, and robotics, while advanced learners have the opportunity to build applications using an industrial robot.

  1. They will always need programmers. The role of a progeamming is just getting more complicated and requires a different skillset than it used to. An understanding of the fundamentals will always be a huge advantage, even when we switch to relying on AI.

  2. advanced robot dog spot having scratch support is quite unexpected

it is great way to teach children about computer science and robotics, absolutely wonderful!

  3. I can't help but think, the reason all these kids want to be robotics engineers is because most other careers will be done by said robots in 10-15 years…. Robotics engineer is likely to be one of the few job avenues left!

  4. We're at the moment it is hard to tell what will the future bring. Maybe AI will develop so well that manual coding won't be needed anymore. However when I try to imagine how 6-9 years old myself would react meeting spot and seeing him performing what I programed earlier, this would probably give me unbelievably motivational brain kick that would probably influenced the rest of my life. Good work guys. Those robot classes might have similar role on current generation as ZX Spectrum had on my life.

  5. OMG Boston Dynamics you Realy Are Pushing Boundaries In The Best Way Spot Is Perfect as He Dont Look Menacing so Just Right to Teach Kids and Even Adults to Learn Thank You Your Company Is Truly Awesome

  6. Wrote my first line of code at the age of 13. That was 51 years ago, and I'm still writing code professionally and as a hobby.
In the early eighties, i worked in a high school where the IT teacher and myself built a whole series of devices and interfaces for the BBC micro. The kids learnt to code in order to control physical "things". This tangability, the ability to see, touch, and feel the output of their code in the real world gave them a joy and excitement that staring at a screen just doesn't.
What we've got here is just brilliant. ❤

  7. I don’t care about Spot to be honest. He can’t take care of my laundry or cook a meal. He can only carry things. Only a humanoid robot can do advanced tasks.

  8. Scratch was my first programming language, and now 15 years later I work as a dev full time! Its awesome to see Spot integrated with such an accessible system for learning the basics of Computer Science, this seems like a fantastic educational team-up. Also, bright yellow robot dog seems to kinda match Scratch's neon orange .jpg cat
