6. Pinker has come in for a fair amount of well considered flak for his overly rosy reading of how we find ourselves at this time in history.
   The strongest criticism centres around his under-recognition of environmental stresses and impacts (current and forecasted) of climate change, resource depletion, pollution and ecosystem collapse.
   Good on Maher for at least raising these aspects.

27. The point is not, if world has become more secure and comfortable than ever before. The point is, how people feels about the world today. You cannot say: Hey, bonehead, compare with the time after 2nd World War and feel happy at once now! Migration for example is a big social and politcal problem. Viewing into history does not help to become happy and optimistic with that problem.

28. Even if a smaller percentage are in poverty, etc— the population is SO much larger than centuries ago that that could actually be MORE people. Also the advancements humanity’s made have been the result of enormous effort not just accidents and we certainly could backslide if we don’t keep it up. All in all, I can’t figure out what his point really is in listing all these positive things. Because we still have to maintain them once we have them, which is a big task itself.
