Steven Pinker is a psychologist, linguist, and author whose new book, Enlightenment Now: The Case For Reason, Science, Humanism, And Progress, attempts to ease your general feelings of despair by using data science to prove that things in the world are generally getting better.   1. The Beginning of Infinity is one of my all-time favorites! As for the best Pinker book to recommend, How the Mind Works (1997) is like a college course unto itself. It's really accessible, check it out.
