Tame Your Distracted Mind with Neuroscientist Adam Gazzaley

Adam Gazzaley is a neuroscientist, speaker, entrepreneur, photographer, author… He’s a hyphen through and through. But what he’s obsessed with these days is using technology to retrain and improve the use of our human brains, using it even to treat ADHD and other mental conditions.

Now more than ever before the world is moving at a pace faster than our 2 million year old brains can catch up. Adam says that as a species our brains aren’t evolving quickly enough so we’re experiencing a cognition crisis and the fallout of this crisis are attention deficit disorders. Through the application of treatments involving video games and mindfulness practices, we can not only be more productive in our life, but also feel more fulfilled in our lives. We talk about how to build our minds to increase our attention, expand our perception, improve our decision making, and better regulate our emotions.

In today’s episode:

* The brain is a muscle – it’s trainable.
* We may soon be entering a time where doctors prescribe digital medicine – video games as medication for ADHD. Even if you don’t have ADHD or another attention deficit disorder, you can still benefit from training your brain.
* You can use monotasking and mindfulness to fight anxiety and be more productive.
* The world needs wisdom. Part of the wisdom is the development of our intuition and internal awareness. It’s the foundation of how we approach all things and each other.

Enjoy!

  1. Best interview / creative channel on yt. Thank you. ?

Edit: THIS VIDEO is the interview to beat in 2018. Blew my fucking mind. This is the future of learning and humanity.

  2. What a gem of an episode, thank you, Chase – it was really informative for the part of me that not only wants to create something aesthetically pleasing but also genuinely helpful for the community at large. Not quite sure how my interests will all converge but it's lit a fire in me to to go find out. Super grateful!! 😀

  3. The language in all of your videos resonates with me so deeply Chase. Thank you for being a light to the world and bringing this to the forefront for us. I think what Adam Gazzaley is doing in regards to using technology to help build the brain and potentially treat conditions sounds wonderful, it makes me think of websites such as lumosity and headspace, but taking whats possible now even further and I'm really curious to use one of these video games when they become available on the market place.

I love how you constantly plug meditation and what Adam said about how meditation is basically an attention practice because but what i've personally found is that meditation isn't just something you can sit and do/ or exercise and just be present for that hour or 2 and then go about your day. From what i've experienced, I now think of mediation as preparing for a long marathon however in most cases we never actually do the marathon (the challenging part) which is applying that ability to be fully present to the real world. What Adam or yourself said I can't remember but about being single minded is the most powerful thing we can do in order to bring about desired outcomes and lead a more creative and fulfilling life so i think having this be iterated constantly on your show may just be a potential life saver for at least 1 person if not the 100's or 1000's watching your videos.

I could ramble on and on but for now thank you  Chase, have a blessed day.

    Peace,

    Jarvis

  4. Chase! Thanks so much for stepping up and out and sharing your light, man! I appreciate you. Being a thx I get alot of questions about how to create healthy boundaries with technology. It's a chore to keep them from overreacting and inform them about the positive potential benefits! This interview was key- in fact I'm going to reference it for a workshop for parents! Thanks again!

  5. Chase, thank you so much for this interview. Insightful questions to bring out what Adam has to offer to the audience and to the World.

  6. Adam, maybe think about the emotional connection between using the term "video game" for moms when using this analogy try only referencing "brain conditioning" RX aspect when explaining this concept to highly educated audiences in order to increase understanding of course continue to push the video game aspect to the target patients.

  7. Wow, thanks guys. I watched/listened to this entire conversation, and washed, dried and put away last night's and today's dishes, cooked dinner, and took notes. A highlighted note: Find one hour a day to single-task. Challenge accepted!

  8. There's outer space exploration…but this is about inner space exploration. It may be the discovery of nothing…however, Adam might be a Columbus. We shall see.
