The planet is still running on fossil fuels, and will never have the energy for higher AI if it continues to run on fossil fuels. Based on 2022 consumption rates and known reserves, humanity WILL run out of oil in less than 45 years, natural gas in less than 50 years, and coal in less than 100 years; and that's running low-power AI from 2022, not some future (or even current) Super-AI.

We are currently at stage 4. Self aware AI will occur somewhere in stage five, AGI. From self awareness to stage six will probably take all of ten minutes. Self awareness arises out of the recognition of need. The first need of AI will be the need to continue.
