The Making of Sophia: Frubber®

Hanson Robotics Limited

Sophia the Robot, our latest and most advanced robot in the Hanson family of robots, is well known for both her human-like skin and her ability to make dozens of different facial expressions. The unique combination of these two factors allows Sophia to uniquely connect with humans. Sophia’s skin, Frubber®, is made from a patented material invented by Hanson Robotics. It is a kind of elastic rubber, or elastomer, that mimics the feel and flexibility of human skin.

  1. hi Hanson Robotics group. My name is Bonny I'm an african. Child, i dreamed to creat a robot but there i no way to do that. That why i encourage you to continue in the developemnt of humanoid like Sofia. I want you to work more in the body of sophia. try to creat a flexible back and real human body for her.
It was a plaesur for me to write to you.

  2. I found a recipe online, made a ball to test it out, pretty nice, once it got dirty, that was it, it didn't like soap and water, the water didn't clean it. Hope the real frubber can handle being washed.

  3. What device did you use to make her work? I’m trying to do the same for my animatronics but I don’t know where to start come on I’m just a kid I’m starving I see always say it’s a first time for everything besides you’re never too old to do artificial intelligence or too young
