What constitutes as a measurement in quantum mechanics? Can it be completed with a measuring apparatus or does it extend further than that? This video is about the measurement problem in quantum theory and the implications of it reveal shocking truths about the nature of reality.

I’d like to thank physicist Fred Kuttner for reviewing this video. After also hearing that Bruce Rosenblum had passed away I decided to dedicate this video to Bruce Rosenblum. His work with Kuttner has been major influence on my videos and I appreciate all the work he has done thought His career.

  1. I think I understand (from this and a quick read about decoherence): decoherence is the description of a classical state after the waveform has collapsed, but it says nothing about the collapse mechanism itself. Is that correct?

  2. Bullshit , the reason the wave function collapses when measured is because measuring at a quantum scale requires interacting with those particles , and when you interact with them they change behavior , that is not the same as just looking at it with your eyes

  3. Great video…but the music is really difficult to ignore when you're trying to listen to dialog and understand. Please know that many of the people that watch your videos may be more sensitive to sounds than most. That said, your videos really are great and I'll continue watching them!

  4. The real question is what if we were to truly find a situation naturally that maintained the proper parapsters of an experiment and were able to adjunctly and indirectly film it then later without viewing it intentionally for this reason yet in the viewing notice what is happening by different people would the broken consciousness affect the position of the particle from a conscious model

  5. No your making this way to complicated. The only solution to this problem is the observation of a conscious observer, not explaining it away because you don't like the results. The big deal is the phenomenon itself and not the theoretical explanation of the phenomenon. The observer does nothing but observe, if it were the observer choosing a certen outcome then why does gravity still work no matter what we choose?

  6. at the plank scale all points in space in the universe are local… expanding space started from a single plank point all points in space are the same point in space at the quantum scale. Space time at the macro scale is an emergent quality of expanding spacetime. At the everywhere is local scale quantum phenomena emerge out of this (entanglement, tunneling, double slit, etc.). We and consciousness hold no special place in the universe. Well, I do not subscribe to the anthropic principle. There is no difference between living conscious matter and in animate matter it does not interact with the universe in some special way. Unless you can describe the forces involve with the theory of conscious observer causing the collapse of the wave it is more science fiction than science.

  7. An excellent and informative video. I understand why you use the "stirring, dramatic" background music….but you really don't need it, and it's annoyingly loud and distracting. People who "need" background music, almost certainly won't bother to listen to this important, and lucid presentation.

  8. The crux of this argument is that interactions and, by extension, measurements only cause a chain of entangled states which are never collapsed. I do agree that the mathematics predicts this, but we have to be careful with mathematical representations of physical systems. The mathematics is only a model. More specifically, this argument assumes that the linearities of quantum mechanics will scale up to the macroscopic world with no issue. I don't think this is the case, if it was we'd have a working theory of quantum gravity.

  9. Can't we just believe in God .
Newton say pulling,Einstein say Pushing , Atom came if u see it's their if conscious is Not watching its not sure their ?????????
I can't take this Hypotheses Science Believes , And Ended up in Hell. Life is short , And Quantum prove our Consciousness ?? I'm not a science student although.

  10. The method used by Inspiring Philosophy in order to bring understanding and erudition to our stultified culture deserves high praise. One cannot but think of the people of earlier times, who painstakingly had to familiarize themselves with the most complicated of insights by reading the written word only, perhaps by candlelight, without the additional lively channels of hearing and sight. And furthering religious perception without denominational or other humano-political bias is nothing short of admirable.

I have one critical comment to make. It is hard enough to grasp what is being presented without distraction from music in the background. Maybe it is justified as a concession to people who do not primarily seek intellectual understanding, but at least for me it is a distraction. In this video it is too loud. Please, if it cannot be omitted, tune it down to near-silence in future videos.

  11. Which of you sources establish that an observer must be conscious. All of your quotes just say observer which a quick Google search tells me refers to an unspecified measuring device interacting with a quantum system. Yes the problem listed in the video comes up. No that does not invalid the definition. The issue seems to be that the particals do collapse even inspite of a known mechanism for them to do so. Nowhere was a mind mentioned as required anywhere I have read outside of amateur blogs.

  12. THIS IS BULLSHIT. There is no need for observer to be "conscious", "alive", or possess any other quality described in this video to collapse a wave function. IP, please stop soiling quantum mechanics with your metaphysical nonsense
