  1. To gain greater understanding of the "Larger consciousness system"" and our role within it,I recommend reading Tom Campbell or watch his youtube presentations. I'd love to see Russel interview him.
His book, My Big Toe (Theory of everything ) describes an awesomely beautiful, seamlessly derived theory from first principles, one well established , the other logically inferred.
A frequently amusing, compelling , deeply thoughtful, life affirming perspective on the observationally and theoretically coherent nature of our deeper reality.
A real eye opener for those who, like myself, appreciate the validity of scientific process ( I've read every new scientist published for decades) yet have remained disappointed because many oft reported well observed phenomena lack even a tentative theoretical underpinning. This book provides an elegant framework to model the hitherto inexplicable.
It achieves the claims made on the cover, digestible, bite sized prose presented from numerous perspectives, the Theory of Everything is precisely that

  2. Hmm.. just because there is no one center of the brain for ego doesn't mean that it doesnt exist.
Everything in the brain has multi-parts to it.
For e.g. love.. it's not just formed via the amygdala, frontal lobe is needed as well etc.
The brain to me is more of the 'hardware' and the software is the consciousness. To be truthful we may only be able to explain 5% (and that might even be too much) of the brain. We really don't know enough about the brain.

  3. I've just become a Christian. Jesus is my best teacher. The Bible talks about many things the other religions speak off but more simply. I don't think I could manage to meditate perfectly. But I do want to practice more. The brain in my opinion isn't fully functional because we use our bodies and minds less then we are made to use them. The body is designed to be worked wounderfully, to be completely designed by ourselves, crafted into something we are proud by for it to fully function we need lots of stretching and strengthening to develop full ability. As for the mind, well it seems to me it's designed to enhance life. You can making into a very entertaining although slightly challenging game. When I go to meetings and people are talking about their struggles, I sit there imaging them over coming them with beautiful visual, mental films with added beauty. I see a man reading his basic text coming to a revelation. With the light all around him caressing him with joy. Or when I'm in a car I imagine lights and love hearts. I make music in my mind. I feel people don't enjoy thinking. But when you use it to enhance reality it becomes blissful. And a really amazing way to contribute love to life. Russel I do hope I can get better enough to one day meet you. I'm sure we would have a lot to talk about. I will keep going to meetings and one day conventions. Hopefully I'll see you their. Your one of the most inspiring men on the planet. You Inspire me to get clean. I am struggling with it. But it's what I truly want Im sure of that much. I have so much knowledge to offer the world. A new positive perspective to contribute. I love people. Even when the I'll adults abused me I knew they were sick. They were lacking in what we need to be well. I am too. Because so many are my friend. We want the world to be perfect. We aren't either. So we need to accept where we are. And talk together learn where we want to be. Together we will save ourselves. Heal eachother. Live a life we love so we can love eachother the way we need to be loved. Endlessly. And constantly. God bless you my dearest recovery champion. You will always be some one that showed me the light. Made me feel I'm worth more than my addictions. I'll pray for you. God bless x

  4. Loved the video 🙂 I think neuro-science should be extended to include the immune system. The digestive system also plays a much bigger part in 'consciousness' than its giving credit for. In short I think we try to 'tune out' alot of our body's physical noise but behind the scenes and when push comes to shove we are in fact slaves to it.

  5. How about this for simulation, the earth was found with dinosaurs. A calculated global catastrophe allowed a future generation to establish itself with a time set for technological advancement.

To, hold on, send our ass through the great attractor with enough water on the surface to crystallize our asses into its abyss to see if “they” can successfully communicate to whatever the fuck is at the other side. Or it’s a big ass bomb for that ass

  6. both Russel Brandt and Dam Harris are great Thinkers and Persons. Just cuase thei are different doesnt habe to make you Hate One of them Russel will you so a Video with Jordan Peterson too?
I would love to see a Budhist talk to a Christian.

  7. Wonder which one is correct. Sam Harris claims that there is no center for your ego neurologically and Michael Pollan claims that there is a Default Mode Network in the brain which we would categorize as the ego or the self

  8. I feel like people look at things all wrong. If you look into space across the universe its a fucking war zone full of the aftermath of utter most destruction in the past.

I seem to think it was between intelligence and instinct or something intelligent V's that of nature and magicly some how theres earth. The last battle, we are (human race) even fighting it inside of our selfs inside our heads whilst even witnessed in front of our eyes.

Your probably sitting there wondering wtf im talking about , thing this dude is skitzoid

Think about trees, single celled and simple life forms even most animals are a product of nature they are pre programed to survive they dont need to learn dont need any help they live from natural instincts its all there from day dot.

Then theres us, when we are born we dont dont know shit an basically most intelligent think we can whilst a new born, is shit and we have to programed into learning everything. ……intelligence right

But intelligence is ruled by emotions yeah…….anyone catching on yet

Collectively as whole we humans are fighting against nature in every way even tho we know its not good for us in the long run because our emotions rule us not our intelligence, henc why were obliterating the very plantet we live on working allied together on killing very thing keeping us live.

Now if you look at the human mind as a galaxy floating in space……no think planet and a moon be easier to explain. Now we all got moons it what we have in common but everyones plannet is a little different some are kinda the same but they all have different things going on and different animals and tress and simple life things of nature an there's also the intelligence being at war with nature battling away being run by emotion inside selfs

So let me ask you who do you think is winning

  9. I'm thrilled with any discussion about this topic Who am I and Why am I here? is the most important questions to ask. But equally important is who I am going to look to for answers. Sam Harris your explanation of Advaita Vedanta was not only incorrect but the opposite of those teachings. There is a self, an eternal spiritual self. When these "Indian" systems talk about illusion that don't mean it the way you explain. There is material energy, matter, things in this world, they do exist but they are temporary . There is a superior energy, a spiritual energy that is eternal and linking up with that energy (God) is the source of real happiness. Its our natural condition, we've just forgotten due to being interested , obsessed sometimes, with the temporary things in this material world.

  10. Its funny how shallow Sam Harris and his ideas are. The irony is that he and his fans think they are so deep.
    Pathetic.

Consciousness is an illusion. The most shallow thing you can think of.

The problem with illusion believers is that they dont like the consequences that follow if consciousness is not an illusion.

They have emotional issues with responsibility and accountability issues. Afraid of the truth. They hate the truth. Pathetic and sad.

  11. You would think Russell Brand would have a more respectable comment section. Insults, nothing but insults. At least a few bright ideas made it to the top of this trash can.
Keep up the good content Russ!

  12. I don't hate Sam Harris, but he confuses the hell out of everything with hyper intellectualism. There's never any hope in his message and tone. I have respect for the man, but he is ultimately not inspiring.

  13. I like Russell's comedy but he is like a chimpanzee when talking politics or spiritual matters Sam on the other hand has dedicated his whole life to understanding the brain and is a master of.meditation. I struggle with brand and his word salad he's just light years behind Sam In every way still can't help.but like brands comedy and I think his hart is in the right place he just has to listen to Sam instead of just thinking what nonsense he's going to say next

  14. Sam Harris is NOT a horrible person, he is just ignorant and refuses to listen to people smarter than he is. I.e Glen Greenwald who he doesn't debate, he just attacks and name calls because thats all he can do at this point. Love you Russell 🙂

  15. Religion wasn't intended to make people feel all warm and fuzzy, it's laying down rules of conduct for a society, no one likes rules but they are supposed to help avoid conflicts. If you want people to tolerate being exploited however as opposed to setting behavioural standards, that's clearly two different discussions.

  16. Harris probably gets hate because he methodically breaks down and explains how the brain and consciousness works, without a need for supernatural explanations, in such a manner as that it makes it difficult to counter.

  17. Harris is such a twat. Brand starts out talking about something like the brotherhood of man and Harris wants to float about in no self land. Harris is a pompous thinker in love with his thoughts.
