Looking good 'Smoking T'. I hope you are well. I was blessed to have you in my life for a short time.
I'm only 6 minutes in and I like what you are saying so far. If I understood you correctly, I would like to address your comment about pākehā not using music for healing.
I understand how music and kapa haka etc is an important tool for connecting to Pacifica and Māori culture, and how even for helping in the healing of ones mental and emotional state. If I understood you in what you meant about pākehā, then I disagree. Music is a big part of pākehā culture and it is a big part of healing and coping. For instance music plays a huge part in Christianity for healing and well-being. There are many different groups based around music and performance that provide the same sorts of things that maori and Pacifica do. Scottish/Irish dancing, choir, stage challenge, ballet, marching bands, and the likes. Dad run a country music club that was a community for all people including the mentally challenged. The joy that people got from singing you could see on their faces.
All of these groups contribute to the mental health and well-being of those who participate. Pākehā have culture, it is just overlooked or taken for granted. I hope that made sense and I not trying to take away from what this talk is all about (I think), I'm only 6mins in lol). Ps. Love and miss you bro. Keep up pushing forward.
I'm liking the host…
Good point Tony. You learn the system and then mold it to work for your culture. Keep the good and throw out what doesn't work for your culture.
Colours, nice.
18 minutes in and now you are starting lol.
I get it now? It's for radio.
I wish I could here the sounds. Edit: songs.
Bigger than you T, lol.
This is great, I was totally wrong on what the topic was. Great talk on an important part of Pacifica/New Zealand culture.
