  1. My top shelf is populated by books by Steven Pinker, Richard Posner and Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. Sometimes I think they're really the same person (a kind of Trinity, perhaps?).

  2. I'll probably check this out but it might be a misfire. Pinker is the best synthesizer/thinker alive but his "style" doesn't do much for me in the abstract, aside from sheer clarity. I find it's a bit lacking in personality compared to Bertrand Russell, Chris Hitchens, George Orwell or H.L. Mencken. Mencken said a man's prose style (like his guitar soloing style, presumably,) is faintly "demoniacal," but Pinker feels too entrenched in the tedious academy to traffic too freely with demons of any sort. You could get expelled.

  3. I think there is way too much compression on this audio, you can hear every movement he makes. That being said, can't wait to pick this up once it's out in paperback.

  4. Where's the audio?  This has to be filmed again.  Get someone with good mics to rerecord this … or just make an audiobook excerpt overdub of a slideshow.

  5. Very amateur video production from someone that should know better. And ahhhhhhhh! Who's messing with the mic?
