In this video, we are going to be learning about how to get started with lighting in 3D. It’s completely software agnostic; you can use any package you want. We cover the basics of how to make different kinds of lighting using simple tools. We also cover the FlippedNormals Lighting Scenes.

I was waiting for this one. Good work.
great stuff!!
Being new to maya, coming from Max this is great Information. thank you !
Finally!
which renderer give better results? Arnold or vray?
i really wanna switch to maya xD
Man this is a great channel. Great work guys!
It's cool and all, you know..
But Blender will render it better..
JK ๐
Nice! As for future content, would love to see some more in depth procedural lookdev stuff in maya!
Lighting is something I struggle with, it's so difficult to advance because it's so subjective and there are many subtle choices to make with every light.
Also: why render layers for the scene instead of render setup?
Love the fact that you got a lot of theory on your tutorials, as opose to just showing how to use a software
Pls, more videos like this one, but shorter. Unfortunately, fundamentals are rarely discussed on 3d channels
it'll be awesome of you guys if you cover more of ''organic modeling/sculpting'' stuff. really struggling with good forms in zbrush, sorry for insisting and keep bringing it up?
Thanks so much for this video!
"use lense flairs sparingly" i dont think JJ abram's compositor got the memo
A video about compositing render layers would be great for the future!
how do you guys always make a video about exactly what I need right now ๐
Ahh faking GI. Now that takes me back, groups of bounce lights in arrays.
OH MY OH MY HE NOTICED ME THEY NOTICED MEE!! THANK YOU FLIPPED NORMAL! MY FYP is dedicated for you!
How come no one ever talks about how to light moving shots?!
Great presentation as always! I found it super useful. Question – what's the point of the sphere that you added around all the objects?
very nice ๐
This is awesome and having that lighting pack helps alot!!!
I really like this channel. You have really nice discussions. Kepp going guys. Pd : ( Put the Maya scene price down XD)
I think the biggest thing people mess up is scene scale. It's imperative that objects are scaled properly. Changing scene units can (or at least use to) mess stuff up so I always work in cm and just multiply the grid scale by whatever I need to. Lighting is my favorite thing to do. But I think it's the icing on the cake. Focusing on an awesome material network is where I find myself spending the majority of my time. I'm obsessed with that stuff. haha. Great video!
If somebody really wants to be a lighting artist they should take up photography and learn color theory. This guy has some of my favorite YouTube videos on color. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LhcNbFMkTw
Have you guys been able to use (or know anybody that uses) Clarisse?
Boys, Maya is crashing on me ๐
but still im going to check those trick as soon as I am able to!
You two doing great!
Nice to see someone talking about this stuff. If you used HDR Light Studio with Maya for this demo, it would have saved a lot of clicking and messing around, concentrating on the shot rather than messing around in 3D and guessing light positions. Not a criticism, just saying, let us know if you want a license to play with for this kind of demo. Regards Mark – Lightmap
Make a playlist for the 3D Fundamentals series?
Loved this video! Do you have any videos on composition?
Love the tutorial but really disliking the hand it is completely out of anatomy
Awesome tutorial, thank you! Can anyone in the comment section tell me though: What is the sphere around everything good for, and how I can make one like that in Blender?
Please try Cinema4D, I want to use it by learning from 3D animation professionals like you guys
More lighting content! Environment set ups on real life scenarios (studio)
If people don't know about basic studio lights, a quick Google will fill in (pardon the expression). I do like the nuance you give the discussion. That moonlight scene is scrumptious. ๐
great as usual guys.
Whoa I didn't even see you guys upload this! SWEEEET.
Its f*cking cool ??
Wow, suggested a video a while ago on this topic and here it is. Awesome ๐ I also really like your tutorials, very engaging and fun. Kind of reminds me how i got started, with 3ฤbuzz tutorials
we definitely need more of this stuff! ๐
Great video! It's good to see this quality in YouTube content. Would be nice to see some shading tutorials with V-Ray and Arnold. How do you guys do look development? I'd love to see your shading Workflow. I'm looking forward to watch more of your videos. Thank you ?
Hey I must say it's a great tut! May I translate it into another language and share it with the others?
Thank you so much for these videos. Working as an amateur in 3D, there is just SO much to learn, and you guys doing these software non-specific videos is a tremendous help.
And THANKS for the Modo setups!!!
