Weirdest Bits Of Victorian Etiquette You Won't Believe People Actually Observed

Weird History

The Victorian era saw the advent of numerous political reforms, social changes and the world’s first industrial revolution.

However, the Victorians had some other, stranger customs whose common observance died out long ago. These weird bits of etiquette range from the mostly harmless to the straight-up appalling and they paint a pretty clear picture about how far the Victorians were willing to go in the name of what they considered decorum.

  1. I'd always thought fainting was brought on by people (women in this case) being malnourished, weak & dehydrated most of the time… Tapeworms would help too… One hears something that makes their stomachs drop thus, wham to the ground with nothing to up chuck…

  2. ⚫ This is the far more factually informative choice for those who want honest details. It is a Truly tragic fact most generally available information. Was totally influenced by the crooked monsters who held back. The advancement of every honest fact. Because disagreeing with the subhumans of the rapist, torturing, robbing, and murderous churches. No matter how perfectly and scientifically accurate. People were executed for the unvarnished Truth. That proved not one single word that issued from the church was even remotely accurate. Much less physically safe to follow.⚫

  3. I was raised by my grandparents from the age of 13 and 18. My grandpa would always ask me if I swallowed a tape worm because I really didn't eat much LOL! Well, now that I'm older… I get the joke. Yikes. No thanks.

  4. Crazy—ppl still put animal fat all over themselves……I never knew that until I actually read the ingredients. Just ask if you’re facial product is vegan.

  5. They still make nipple shields. They are silicone though. They were not really for modesty they were for comfort. Also, it’s beauty regimens. Beauty regiments is a good looking group of soldiers. 😊

  6. Perhaps it is only in some parts of the UK, but there are some who will put a loved ones hair and ashes into jewellery to wear. Perhaps to keep them close. I know members of my own family who had the hair and ashes put into resin jewellery to wear. I thought it was odd and apparently a throw back from the Victorian era. I know people in the North of England who keep locks of their partners hair as keepsakes in a box. Perhaps it’s to remember the colour and curl of their loved loves once beautiful hair before age, who knows the reason.

  7. Saw an idiot on a tv show who actually tried the tapeworm trick and report his progress but had so much trouble getting rid of it he tried prunes and extra greens, let’s face it there’s only so much kale or prunes you can eat before they find their way out eventually.😝😝😝😝
