What is AI, and how does AI work? 
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a field of computer science focused on creating intelligent machines capable of mimicking human-like cognitive functions. AI enables computers to process and analyze data, make decisions, and learn from experiences. 
AI systems use algorithms to process large datasets, identify patterns, and make predictions or decisions. Machine learning, a subset of AI, allows algorithms to improve performance over time by learning from new data. 
 
Two types of AI: Narrow AI and General AI 
AI can be broadly categorized into Narrow AI (or Weak AI) and General AI (or Strong AI). The difference between Narrow AI and General AI is that Narrow AI is designed for specific tasks. At the same time, General AI possesses human-like intelligence and can handle various tasks. 
Examples of Narrow AI include virtual assistants like Siri, recommendation systems on streaming platforms, and autonomous vehicles. These systems excel in their designated tasks but cannot perform tasks outside their scope.  
General AI, a concept yet to be fully realized, would be capable of tasks ranging from problem-solving to creative endeavors. Currently, no fully functional General AI systems exist, as they would require human-level cognitive abilities.  
 
Challenges with AI 
Developing AI systems faces challenges like ethical concerns, privacy issues, bias in algorithms, and safety concerns, particularly when dealing with General AI’s potential to act autonomously. As AI technology advances, addressing these challenges becomes crucial to harness its potential while minimizing risks.
