When Adolf Hitler declared war on modern art

CBS Sunday Morning

During Adolf Hitler’s rise to power in the 1930s, one of the many groups he targeted during his quest to remake the world in his image was modern artists. The Nazis confiscated works by Matisse, Van Gogh, Picasso and others, and at a historic art show in 1937 displayed modern art pieces as “degenerate art.” Erin Moriarty of “48 Hours” takes us on a tour of the recreated event at the Neue Galerie in New York City.

  1. Modern art, music, fashion, food, culture and people and everything is becoming degenerative and its not only happening in west but all over the world people are becoming cheap

  2. 2:17 "German Identity"
Nah if that artistic terrorism was in France, Greece, America, Japan, China, Persia, Turkey or any other nations it is still trash, gustily, repulsive, dehumanising and degenerative to societal behaviour and culture, it is an act of corporate sponsor to tarnish and purge culture through what they call revolution, which is just a repetitive core principle reciprocated through degenerative behaviour.

  3. Most of people hate modern "art", that doesn't makes them nazis. The only people who enjoy this garbage, are pseudo intellectuals and the people who benefit from this business. Modern "art" is the logic of neoliberalism, apply to the art World.

  4. Art in the 20th century: Beautiful, realistic art that has a deep story

Art now: Some splotches made by a five year old with a "deep story."

  5. If I’m not mistaken wasn’t there some kind of event at Madison Square Garden that showcased Adolph’s singing ability??

  6. At least he did something right. That, and the autobahn. I'm not a fan of his genocide, sterilization, euthanasia, or aggressive war policies, though. 0/10 stars.

  7. I think the critique within modern art runs deeper than a mere criticism of national socialism. Like communism, its intent is meant to subvert western civilization as a whole.

  8. It's interesting to see how the realistic art was preferred. If you are painting at times yourself. Perfectionism is a demon as big as degeneration. The sensation of panic when your confronted with things you are supposed understand and you haven't got a clue, is important to revisit. The newborn child has no words. But taking it out with the trash?
