I suspect that the fear of texting and driving will take some time. It will take at least a generation or two to clear the gene pool.
I am pretty sure I fear all kinds of things that have nothing to do with primal instinct. Some fear driving, Others being judged, Some fear being late. We fear things that we think will logically cause pain or death or discomfort. I am sure it evolved to keep us safe and alive though.
