  1. I am not a person who interrogates why i feel and think in certain ways very often. Usually because i can give solid answers for why i do certain things. So videos like this tend to go over my head a little? But I'm glad it exists all the same.

  2. Olly: "You've been reading too much Nietzsche, detective."
Ellis: "It's detective Sargent you fuck!"
Olly: "You've been reading too much Nietzsche, detective Sargent you fuck."

  3. how the fuck is this man from the UK, Scotland and Australia all at the same time? I'm American and I can't even replicate a New York accent but this fool could probably sound like a fuckin bottle of water if he wanted to. I'm fuckin jealous.

  4. This video is simultaneously a piece about authenticity in media, performance art, an inducer of thirst for Eyepatch-Olly, and one bigass lampshade rolled into one. If you read this, Mr. Thorne, i've come to fulfill my end of our parasocial relationship. Avail your budget of my watch-minutes, and your ego of my kudos~

Also, caught the cut to bad-cop during your spiel about characters that actors play not necessarily being wholly separate in thought and emotion from the actor themself.

  5. To be perfectly honest, I would rather NOT see all the authentic details of someone’s life, beyond what they choose to share. I know some people might connect more and want to know more about the person, but to me that just feels so invasive. I can respect the labor and the emotions that went into something without needing to know every detail of someone’s life. I hope you youtubers (you guys, as a collective whole lol) don’t get yourself down worrying about the pressure of pleasing the fans, because I’m not bothered at all by keeping a professional distance. Maybe I’m misinterpreting what a para-social relationship is? I don’t know.

Anyway, the point is, you do good work and I think your videos are really well made and emotionally very moving. Please take care of yourself, and keep up the good work. =)

  6. It is weird to watch this video now after you came out as Bisexual, saying that you can't speak to how tough it is to be authentic when you are gay. As someone who didn't think of myself as "truely" bisexual for a long time I know that feel of not wanting to claim that identify because you don't feel like you deserve it, especially when you are currently have a partner of the opposite gender and the public will just assume your straightness. Jusr wanted you to know how much your bisexual video was so validating for me.

  7. I want to stand, applaud, cheer, and throw roses after every one of your videos (sometimes with tears in my eyes.) BUT… this is YouTube… So instead I will graciously ask for your consent in SMASHING that like button over and over again for as long as you decide to continue making art in this form. Encore!

  8. I really appreciate the effort and time you put into these videos. The ones where you put on something of a little play as a means of illustrating the problem laid out by the thesis is just… so good. Thank you for doing what you do.

  9. Love your work, Ollie! It's a joy to watch you perform, examine, discover, and educate. It's good to know you read the comments, I hope the good outweigh the bad.

  10. I love your performance in this one, I've watched it a few times. Particularly the "how many takes" bit feels so vulnerable and tender. Chef kiss

  11. my first thought: sounds like the black and white fallacy. why only these two options? why only two options? why exclude all other things in between.
    (what's a true self?)

  12. I am doing a marathon of your videos while real stressful times right now. And you´re not just cheering me up with your performances and jokes, you´re also putting the thumb on some thinks I never could verbalize. Thanks Olli, my parasocial friend. When you read this, good morning, hope you have a nice day!
