Acrylic Horse Painting Abstract – Equestrian Art

This was my first try at this kind of abstract acrylic horse art, especially with an animal. I don’t normally draw or paint animals or subjects ever. I had this idea and went with it. Since I was really creative that night I didn’t record my full process so I recreated the process to show you.

Painted with acrylic paints and Floetrol. Use a brush, knife, a hairdryer and some craft sticks to create the horse.

This acrylic horse painting is a wonderful acrylic painting for beginners! People love equestrian art or horse paintings. This abstract style will impress your friends.

  1. It's hard to tell but I think you're mixing thicker than you would for a typical pour painting? You've created an amazing technique, I've been looking for ways to intermingle traditional painting and pour painting and yours rocks. Flattery is indeed the sincerest form of flattery – I see fish and kitties and …

  2. Hi Carl, thank you so much for sharing this video and inspiring so many to paint. I have tried this painting and would like to share it with you. Please let me know how I can do it. Thanks from India.

  5. Born and raised in Kentucky, there are three things we love and this is the "Horse Capital of the World"!! The other two being bourbon and University of Kentucky basketball! I have to try this…a hundred times to get it right if I have to!! I can't draw/sketch to save my life so I'll have to trace a silhouette! What size canvas did you use??
I have to get started on this…my time on earth is limited so I need to get my butt in gear!! I sincerely hope I don't end up with "pea green soup" color on it! Since I can't paint for long due to being ill, is it a problem if I only get some colors done and it might be a day or two before I have had some rest before I add more colors?? Both are stunning! Kudos! But, prints are sold out!!

  6. Hi Carl – I came across a inspired equestrian art by a local artist. His Instagram post doesn't mention where he got the inspiration from. Personally, this local artist should have given credit – not passing it off as an original art. Thanks for doing your videos!

  7. Your original horse is good. Your second horse/donkey needs work. The reason that I think it didn't not come out as the first one is because you used the scapel in the second one when applying the black. Your strokes with the scapel are everywhere when doing the second painting. One the first painting you did a great outline of the horse, painted it the black with a paint brush shadowing in. Then your colorful strokes had movement they weren't just blocked. They also had direction they were going in a certain direction while the strokes on the second one are everywhere. As for the hair maybe you just needed to apply more paint? The two are so different…… Overall I liked your painting and might try it out.
