Gelong Thubten explains how to develop a daily mindfulness practice

Change Your World

A class in non-religious mindfulness meditation.

During this session Thubten explains how to develop a daily mindfulness practice as well as how to integrate it into your daily life, both at work and at home. Thubten will explain two or three simple techniques and there will a short guided meditation with time for questions and answers. There will be an emphasis on gentleness and compassion both for oneself and others, and advice on how to deal with thoughts and emotions. Mindfulness helps to reduce stress, increase mental clarity and focus, as well as to balance our emotions and improve relationships with others.

  3. "I think if you are a meditator you see other people doing stuff that's unskillfull and you learn to be more compassionate and maybe understand that they're stressed, they're lost in confusion, they're lost in a kind of mindless state and that's why they do that stuff so maybe you become a little bit less judgemental and I'd say 90% of our suffering is because we judge others. Really, we suffer because we don't like what other people say or do but that's a crazy way to live it means we're a victim of everyone else if you can change that through forgiveness, compassion, tolerance. You free yourself."

Wow. The wisdom on this statement alone is just wow.

  4. Just reaffirms why I continue to sit and how sitting has given me  peace  within myself and the external environment we live in. Thank you Gelong Thubten

  5. Surprised that you incorporate holistic practices. New kadampa in uk don't encourage such things, they keep the dharma pure and dont mix it with other practices, they are tibetan buddhists. Is your school lineage the same as new kadampa?

  7. I one time went to a physiologist to learn how to meditate many years ago. To bad they do not know who to teach u the right way. Glad we have people like this man to learn.

  8. Very nice and insightful lesson indeed. I hail from the island of Malta and wonder if Mr. Thubten would consider visiting the island and holding sessions ..

  9. my mind is like a power point program where i see a bunch of images, what i ve done is transmute those negative images into positive ones where i only see whats important and meaningful in my life!

  10. Happiness is not difficult to find. Just let it go. Do not attach to anything. If I were Tibetan , I would never fight back or against the Chinese invader. Just to give it away whatever they like. So , nobody would get kill. Nobody would not leave the Tibet. Do mindfulness. Practice you mind keep on the focus point that is our breathing in simple way of meditation by which Buddha became enlightenment. Enlightenment is not a difficult matter. As long as you can place your awareness at the stage of Neutral stage of reality and let it go [ make sure not attach to anything ] we will be at the stage of Heaven. Tibetan Buddhism is not the real teaching of Buddha. It is mixed up with Yoga , Hindu culture and Tibet's original culture of believing in Ghost like angles. Real Buddha teaching is in Tipitaka which is mostly practice in Siri Linka and Myanmar. Want to know more about real Buddha teaching , try to google search " Tipitaka " in English translation. If you worry about translation error, you may need to learn Pali language . You may also go to nearest Burmese/Myanmar monastery and can find out more as well. The main teaching of Buddha is 4 noble truth. 1. Suffering ; 2. Cause of Suffering [ i.e Attachment ] ; 3. Methods [ 8 practices to do ] to remove the attachment to our Ego ; 4. The state of NO suffering [ Nivanna – Heaven ]. …

Meditation is part of 3rd Noble truth. Beginner meditation – our awareness focus on the breathing process ; Advanced Meditation – focus on any mind comes up , just to aware it , not Judge on that though , not feeling on that thought ; but look at that thought's come and go nature [ ah-nate- sa … Phit/Pyat … born follow by death ] without attaching to our Ego. Remind ourselves, we , Ego , also not really exist . We are made up of organ , tissues , cells , particles. We, Ego, not also exist. Until this philosophy run automatic action on whatever thought process comes up , that is at the state of Enlightenment. [ which has also 4 stages ] …. need to know more … google .. or e-mail me .. the Guru … gandawinhein@gmail.com

  11. Formula:
Don't CONTROL the thoughts, become AWARE of them and return to yourself and refocus on something of yourself like breathing or fidget. And Practice often.
The mind is like the body, without exercise it gets lost.
Step1. Motivation: Make the decision to do it
Step2. Body Awareness: Feel the body and connection to World such as chair your sitting
Step3: Focusing on yourself: Focus on the breath in and out, do not deep breath but focus on the breath.
    Step4: Body Awareness
    Step5: Motivation
