How The Film Theorists “EXPOSED” Shane Dawson (Film Theory Inside the Mind of Jake Paul Docu-Series)

The Film Theorists just “exposed” Shane Dawson and the Inside the Mind of Jake Paul docu-series. Matpat aka The Film Theorists discusses how Shane Dawson paints people like Jake Paul, Logan Paul, Jeffree Star and others in a certain light. The Film Theorists also explains how certain aspects manipulate you and Shane Dawson might be playing you…but is he? Let’s unpack what The Film Theorists was really trying to teach us.

  1. I usually see glaring mistakes in most videos and yes I sometimes look up stuff I don't like, even though it makes me mad. The only thing I can't tolerate is lying. Something Mattpat is well known for. He cares more for the entertainment value of his videos than he cares for the quality of the content.

  2. This is honestly one of my favorite videos you've done and I don't think I've commented on a YTers video yet. I just wholeheartedly agree with what you're saying and I see it every day on social media, these people shouting into an echo chamber and closing their ears to any who oppose even if it's a reasonable question. I've been practicing mindfulness for about four years now and it keeps me so grounded through all the chaos. I wish I knew how to approach people about their confirmation bias without offending them, not to change their bias but so that they're aware they have it and that their word isn't law or isn't necessarily "Right", how maybe they can, just for a moment, see it from another viewpoint and understand an opposing view without condemning it and being able to keep their bias/belief in tact.

  3. I thankfully don't have anyone I "stand" with. No ones perfect and everyone has their own views on things. When you find out that they gave out wrong information you can become dissapointed in them so I don't hold people to a high level.

  4. I can definitely say that I enjoy watching Shane Dawson and I have since he first was on YouTube back when he did the Shanaynay personalities and the parody music videos that were hilarious. Seeing him come up from very little to where he is today I'm very proud of him and it's hard sometimes to think that he would manipulate the crowds but as the Mindless sheep there we are it does make sense that not everybody but a lot of people that are in that public eye have more of the opportunity to manipulate and twist things to make them more interesting, hence entertainment

  5. This is really interesting. As someone who has been emotionally abused, I have developed a pretty alright tendency to notice when I am discarding my own values, beliefs and ideas for someone else's.

When I was younger and before I had that experience, I had a tendency to believe that people were always one way or another; right or wrong, in alignment with some divine "moral" code. It did not occur to me that my own would be constructed through growth and experience, and collective facts.

I had assembled this code from people who were famous that I trusted for no reason, and then during my abuse, had a tendency to use that person as my moral compass. I have also done this with family members, friends and peers that I viewed as more successful or experienced, therefore thinking they were inherently correct about most things.

When these people have left, passed away, have lied or have just been wrong, it can send you into a spiral. That is most easily avoided by treating all information you receive the same. Ask questions, examine everything!

When I was able to separate myself from the situation, and give value to my own experiences, ideas, and fallibility of myself and others.. my world started to change. I am still changing, and holding myself accountable and checking my confirmation bias at the door as often as possible.

I have also noticed, in retrospect, times where I have been in a position where I have had people assume I was correct because of my experience or position in life. It's valuable to notice that, too. Especially if you have a platform.

    I hope this made sense.

  6. My brother and I were texting and he was telling me how for me, I could grow out of BPD if I think differently, he said I should think differently by exploring "personal possibilities to reinforce a narrative" which made no sense, still doesn't. I told him that it is not what he thinks, and in 3 minutes, sent me 5 book titles with authors and said he had "120 hours of lectures" on his phone. I told him about confirmation bias and he said I was connecting dots that were not there. I never seen such an immoveable bias

  7. Mindfulness is so important! I often forget to practice it. ? I really liked your explanation and your take on it! I often find myself jumping to conclusions when I see a random article on Facebook and blindly agreeing with it.. so dumb haha. Thank you for sharing your perspective ?

  8. I do feel defensive about some YouTubers, but I get confused as to why people expect YouTubers to be perfect. People don't take the time to think before they criticise. I hate structured mindfulness exercises personally. But I grew up with a embroidery on the wall that said 'listen to the silence, be still, and let your soul catch up' and I think that's a great message in this overstimulating, busy, noisy world. When Shane's Jake Paul series came out, I did feel fairly early on that it wasn't going to go to plan. But it was entertaining, and I don't judge him for not being perfect- in fact, don't we all love him for being imperfect?

  9. Your video was extremely interesting! I'm happy youtube recommend it. Subscribed! Using Youtube "drama" to talk about bigger issues is a incredible move.
Can I add portuguese subtitles so I can share it?

  10. This is why i always think the worst of people. Im scared of believing them haha but im believing in something by going negative so it doesnt make sense anyway. Still trying to focus on my thoughts in a detached sort of way.

  11. Well, I mean people being influenced by social media and confirmation bias is how we ended up with this political predicament in the US, which is like a cult following, so yeah this sort of manipulation can be dangerous, though Shane is a harmless guy who just wants to be nice to everyone even if they don't deserve it.

  12. I loooooooved Shane so much. But that series put a bad taste in my mouth. I didn’t need a third person to make me believe that the series was extremely biased n stupid n Shane was no gullible baby. N also I didn’t even know that there was a jake Paul.. I learned things with Shane n could tell but Shane who knows so much more chose to go so blunt. M also mad that he was so lazy at manipulating that I couldn’t buy anything of it even for a min. Atleast try harder. It’s like trump blatantly gross but ok. Shane chose the narrative of the series n act like Jake controlled the editing, m so innocent I didn’t realize anything. Erica is an angel even though she did pretty unethical shitty things which he never interviewed conveniently.
The only thing that gives him any redemption is that Shane was blackmailed n his life was in danger coz he’s playing with investors money so to save his life/ career he had to make a series like this.

  13. I am super defensive of Hank and John Green because I feel like they’ve earned that from me for always being kind and thoughtful and admitting when they mess up.
For instance, I watched Pewdiepie pretty regularly for a while and none of his big scandals pushed me away, but when he sided with Elon Musk against Hank when they had a twitter fight, I stopped watching him for a good month….

  14. The thing is though, i think that it is an essential part of growing up, and i wonder if i am wrong to think that too, like you can’t be bias if you didn’t have an opinion or a belief on something first, and you can’t really understand its depths if you didn’t hold on to it long enough, I don’t think conformation bias is inherently wrong in fact it’s necessary to learn and grow, being mindful is a second parallel step to it

what i wonder about too is if that is a constant cycle through life? if how our brain processes differs on how old you get and what life situation you at?

  15. You know, this video reminded me of a scene from "lufe of brain" by monthy python.
There is Brain, the messiah, and a group of people who follow him and ge tells them "you are free individuals, you can think for yourself" because he felt unconfortable being followed and they all repeated unison "we are free individuals, we can think for ourself".

Saying that I already met ppl who had a confirmation bias about being mindful while the actuall weren't. Because, Soul, being truly mindful can hurt people physically.
Because, whenever your belief systems are challenged, you end up in a cognetive dissonance, a neurological thing that actually can be reeeaaalllyyy unconfortable.
It's great being mindful, mind you, however, I have meet ppl beliving themselves to be such high and mighty because they though that the overcome their confirmation biases while living in this bubble of narcism.
    What was my point?
Great video 🙂 I subscribed to you.
