Keoki Jackson: Lockheed Martin | Artificial Intelligence (AI) Podcast

Lex Fridman

Keoki Jackson is the CTO of Lockheed Martin, a company that through its long history has created some of the most incredible engineering marvels that human beings have ever built, including planes that fly fast and undetected, defense systems that intersect threats that could take the lives of millions in the case of nuclear weapons, and spacecraft systems that venture out into space, the moon, Mars, and beyond with and without humans on-board. This conversation is part of the Artificial Intelligence podcast.

  1. I enjoyed this conversation with Keoki. Here's the outline (click on the timestamp to jump to that part in the video). If you'd like to add other moments to it, please post timestamps and titles as replies:

  2. This might not be in Lockheed's wheelhouse, but a large amount of domestic damage could be done with AI financial manipulation. Is this something that is being looked at at DOD/LMco?

  3. Can't wait to see Lockheed develop some awesome engine systems that can operate both in our atmosphere and in space.

  4. How does esp work? -Ben Rich
What is the moral difference between a beheading and dropping bombs on hospitals filled with sick children and firing missiles at schools with children it? What is the moral difference between those. -George Carlin

  5. What about the military industrial complex? Oh, we're not worried about it, basically. It should always grow as a percentage of GDP, and if it needs to grow beyond that percentage, well, it's $CURRENT_YEAR, threats are complex, invest more.

So yeah, we get it, you're part of the military industrial complex, you're never going to argue against it.

  6. lets correct some lies, the us fomented a revolution in urkraine that forced russia to respond. the revolutionaries in ukraine were actual nazis. yep look into it even the bbc came out with that one. also look into joe bidens sons illegal dealings there, along with Monsanto wanting the farm land there. crimea was always a russian naval outpost and he knows it. so lets remove the lies so easily accepted by this man consciously or not. while lockheed makes bank also remember that the us is falling apart and becoming a banana republic fascist oligarchy. the main reason for the corruption of our politics is wealthy corps like this that profit off human suffering. defense my ass. they are all about global domination…..rex wants a job there it looks like. when will men of science stop working for other men with evil intent? think for god's sake. the world is dangerous because they make it so. its a choice more root than they let on.

  7. The compartmentalization of the Elite – Military Industrial Complex really shows in Mr. Keoki Jackson. LMT should focus on releasing all the REAL projects and information surrounding Deep Space and Interplanetary Corporate Conglomerate. Do right by all beings of any universe and let's scale out! Best of luck, and remember KARMA is real and affects everyone. Be on the correct side of the direction of Earth and the stars.

  8. competative to SpaceX ? Hmm Does anybody know anybody who knows anybody who creates awesome reusable Rockets like SpaceX ? . . = No. It would be nice to ask him about some "black projects" Lockheed Martin had in the past and still does till today… but bring him towel to wipe his sweat after this question.

  9. Don't get me wrong, this channel is awesome. I was thrilled to listen to this one, but the answers were so boring that I couldn't finish it. KL divergence = 0. Is he not allowed to say any technical comment at all or is he a manager without technical knowledge? Or perhaps he wasn't aware that this show is a bit technical?

  10. claims the DOD is 'thinking' about autonomous weapons, cites directive 3000.09 as proof its been thoroughly thought of, then goes off on a rant on Russia, China and Iran 'forgetting' about the US's implications and other deeds. Finishes of by mentioning lockheeds ethics award. LOL

Cambridge uni: A human touch: autonomous weapons, DoD Directive 3000.09 and the interpretation of ‘appropriate levels of human judgment over the use of force’:

    Abstract:
This chapter addresses the legal, policy and military context of the drafting of ‘Autonomy in weapon systems’, the United States Department of Defense (DoD) Policy Directive 3000.09. More specifically, the author describes the development and interpretation of Directive 3000.09's requirement that autonomous weapons systems (AWS) be designed to allow commanders and operators to exercise ‘appropriate levels of human judgment over the use of force’. The chapter compares the Directive's standard with another conceptual vision for the development of autonomous functions and systems known as ‘coactive design’ or ‘human–machine interdependence’. Finally, the author argues that the increasing speed of autonomous technology – and the concomitant pressures to advance the related values of military necessity and advantage – eventually will cause the Directive's standard of ‘appropriate levels of human judgment over the use of force’ to be ineffective and irrelevant.
