Kids Mindful Games for Focus Compilation

MyLife

In this video, strengthen your focus with four mindful games that are all about the power of attention: “Square Breathing,” “Fading Tone,” “Tic Toc & Counting Breaths” and “Slowly Slowly.”

These mindful games are a great way to support focus by counting your breaths, tuning into the sounds around you and moving your body. Try them when you feel distracted or overly excited. We recommend playing these mindful games when you feel focused as well, so you already know what to do when you feel distracted.

“Square Breathing” begins deep in the ocean with Puffer Fish. To play this mindful game, you’ll breathe in time with Puffer Fish as she swims around the sides of a dotted square. As Puffer Fish swims up, you’ll breathe in for a count of four, and as she swims across the top of the square, you’ll hold your breath for a count of four. As Puffer Fish swims down the side of the square, you’ll breathe out for a count of four. And as she swims across the bottom of the square, you’ll hold your breath again for a count of four, repeating the cycle a few more times.

“Fading Tone” begins with a curious rabbit sitting in a beautiful forest. The sun is out; the breeze is blowing, and you can hear all kinds of sounds around you. As you listen for different sounds, you will be prompted to place your hand on your heart, head or shoulder when the sound fades away, and you can no longer hear it.

“Slowly Slowly” begins on a slow morning in Sloth’s cool and funky dorm room. To play this mindful game, you’ll pretend you’re moving in sloooooow motion, focusing on the feeling of each movement in your body.

“Tic Toc & Counting Breaths” begins with the tic toc sound of a grandfather clock in Jet the Horse’s barn. To play this mindful game with Jet, you’ll sway from side to side in sync with the sound of the ticking clock, repeating the rhyme “tic toc like a clock, until I find my center, stop!” And when the rhyme ends, and you find your center, you’ll freeze for a moment before starting to sway again. At the end of the game you’ll play “Counting Breaths” by silently counting each breath as you breathe in and out.
