PNA TUNA
The Observer Sea Safety Placement Video was developed to improve and educate fisheries observers that work in the WCPFC region on the importance of sea safety and to provide usable information on the sea safety equipment that is available to them. The video follows the observer through their engagement and placement on fishing vessels in readiness for their trip.
The video also provides visual demonstration of the following;
– Fitting and use of life vests;
– Activation and operation of a PLB, including in-water scenario;
– Messaging using satellite communication devices; and
– Transmitting SOS alerts from a PLB or satellite device.
The aim of the Observer Sea Safety Placement Video is to:
– Provide accessible relevant training media for instruction in the correct use of safety equipment and important sea safety procedures during observer placement and trips;
– Improve and refresh observer knowledge and ability in the use of safety equipment and on sea safety procedures;
– Provide information on the importance of correct use of safety equipment i.e avoiding false alarms in non-emergency situations;
– Motivate observers to use their safety equipment, including wearing of life vests whenever on deck; and
– Increase the professionalism and awareness of observer sea safety in the WCPFC region to help create a safer working environment for observers.
