Thinkable
In this episode of Thinkable, Richard Dawkins and Steven Pinker explore the frontiers of science, language, morality, artificial intelligence, evolution, and the future of human civilization.
Steven Pinker is a Canadian-American cognitive psychologist, psycholinguist, popular science author, and public intellectual. He is an advocate of evolutionary psychology and the computational theory of mind.
Richard Dawkins is a British evolutionary biologist, author, and public intellectual best known for popularizing the gene-centered view of evolution through his book The Selfish Gene. He is also a prominent atheist and a strong advocate for science and secularism, having written extensively on these topics in books like The God Delusion. His work introduced concepts such as the “selfish gene” and the “meme,” a unit of cultural transmission.

Interesting intellectual ideas ,discussions, and promotions (half of which most people probably don’t understand) but not much practical stuff for real life. Clear elite biases as well.
There was nothing about the future of religion, though it was interesting.
Of course all religions will go extinct. I give a Christianity two or three months maximum four. Budisism five or six. And for Islam seven, eight or nine months and it's over. Basically the next year all religions on the world will be extinct.
And add 30 secs in…
Religion will eventually go extinct, and be regarded forevermore as ignorant, backward, ridiculous superstition, IF the human race lasts long enough and doesn't go extinct itself, first.
If the human race goes extinct, the most likely reason will be fanatical, delusional Christian nutcases like Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump.
I think religion will always be around — why — because (1) humans are living creatures with a strong desire to keep living but (2) we can't so (3) we will continue to imagine ways to have some form of immortality, whether it is souls or heaven or whatever. It's a case made in the book 'A bible for atheists'. So, for better or worse, religion is part of our nature, and we have to find ways to understand it while keeping it from doing harm to our everyday lives on Earth.
this didn't grow on richard's lawn, closer to peter singer, though he had forerunners too.
When Putin invaded Ukraine — listen to Jeffrey Sachs and John Mearsheimer! The U.S. and NATO created that war and are primarily responsible for it, like almost all of the regime change operations that occur endlessly. It's called imperialism and Russophobia is one of its main symptoms. Along with slanders against Islam used to justify genocide against Gaza and Lebanon. You can both grasp that, eminently rational as you are!
Religion is fading but violence is growing
Science is also behind all the destructive weapons of war , it's not always on the good side.
in the most kindest of ways. i just love watching/listening to 2 absolute nerds with the freedom to talk. love it. ty
I disagree. Religion will continue. Based on two arguments; "You can't argue with stupid", and "Life will always find a way".
Clapping for an AI poem. We are such a pathetic modern species.
Do Richard Dawkins and Steven Pinker want all religions going extinct? You can be certain that there is at least one particular religion that they will not mention in that list.
Religion is not built in single day , religion will go on on reason people seeking high morality as they will get fed from human evil
I can't take Pinker serious after seeing his hilariously bad takes on basic history.
Religion will be around for a long time because most people aren't geniuses like them. Given what we now know, it makes no sense. But not everyone knows what they should know. Religion will just adapt.
Stupid people will always exist
As true as AI being conscious!
Can’t stop worshipping privately!
Darwinism will go extinct proved false how could natural selection develop sleep its silly water to land gills to wings etc but sleep come on eaten alive in dreamsx
Language or common human language is very good but not precise as maths and all these so called agencies use data based on fallacy of language itself not nature or reality.
It’s easy for governments to tell people what not to do but very hard to tell them what to do.
So let the people decide, people in their infinite wisdom good or bad decided twice trump to be their voice and for me he is.
Cognitive biases makes us all unique including you sir if you remove it we transcend.
Steven you yourself are plagued by it so am I writing it this is what bias is, so your bias is aligned with liberal bias who oppress good people with force and deliberate bias of telling them they are less than you.
We are all one sir so why fight ?
Sir Richard and stiven for you(guru brahma guru Vishnu guru devo maheshwara guru sakh sath param brahma tasmai Sri guruvenamah)
Science has one gold standard reproducibility and no religion can claim that.
In the Czech Republic, Estonia and Nordic countries the vast majority of people are already have no religion. In another 50 years so will 80% of people in America and everywhere in Europe as well.
我相信這會發生,基督教將會逐漸消退,我希望這在不久的將來會發生,
Nah, religion won’t go extinct worldwide. Some places may get less religious, but globally it’s still hanging on and mostly staying.
I believe all people wish for a brotherhood and sisterhood of man. The closest that we achieved that was pre-history or the idea of the noble savage. A time of simplicity, natural bounty and underpopulation. A time of Edens. In Christian doctrine it is the belief that man is by nature, good. Then civilization, population boom and history happened. It started with territorial control, natural resource control, family feuds, laws, social control, scarcity, class systems, religious, scientific systems and too much complexity that brought forth wars, disagreements and focus on segregation and variety rather than similarity and of course hate, horrible memories passed from one generation to another. If science can bring back those Eden-like situations, there may be hope to end those universal “I hate yous”.
Yeah, it's kind of funny, the scientific world. If any place you would presume to accept every kind of crazy ideas and thoughts to be explored, a lot of the time you see people behave like we know a lot, while we don't know shit. So many things we're left unexplored for the same reasons religion is where it's at. They close the doors with facts, while a lot of those "facts" have a billion unanswered questions behind them.
I don't know how these peop are scientit they talk like a normal joe from my bar
Atheists like Richard Dawkins will die
Hitchens already dead
I don’t see anyone carrying the torch of atheism after Richie
Atheism will go extinct
They will all die
Here are 3 reasons why
Why did atheist1 stop breathing and die
Because he doesn’t believe in air
Something you can’t see
You can’t touch
Therefore doesn’t exist
Why did atheist2 jump from the tall building and die
Because he doesn’t believe in gravity
Something you can’t see
You can’t touch
Therefore doesn’t exist
Why did atheist3 live a miserable life alone and die
Because he didn’t believe in love
Something you can’t see
You can’t touch
Therefore doesn’t exist
1:18:40 To say that the future prospects of Ethiopians relies on Ethiopians, or even Somalians relying on Somalians, would be clearly logical while leaving out racism & geopolitical exploitation of Africa by Europeans, Europeans American elites, & China.
Estou farta das religiões do pénis! Judaísmo, cristianismo e islamismo! São uma e a mesma mentira!
