Congratulations to Sir Roger Penrose for winning the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics.
Are quantum events required for consciousness in a very special sense, far beyond the general sense that quantum events are part of all physical systems? What would it take for quantum events, on such a micro-scale, to be relevant for brain function, which operates at the much higher level of neurons and brain circuits? What would it mean?

Sir Roger Penrose is a mathematical physicist, mathematician, philosopher of science, and Nobel Laureate in Physics. He is Emeritus Rouse Ball Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, an emeritus fellow of Wadham College, Oxford and an honorary fellow of St John’s College, Cambridge, and of University College London (UCL). Penrose has made contributions to the mathematical physics of general relativity and cosmology. He has received several prizes and awards, including the 1988 Wolf Prize in Physics, which he shared with Stephen Hawking for the Penrose–Hawking singularity theorems, and one half of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics “for the discovery that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity”. The other half was awarded to Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez.

i think emotions started the way early humans evolving a consciousness then later words in thoughts leading to talking philosophy, quantum physics…

So even if that's the way consciousness works, what's the problem with AI? Quantum computer is the coherent quantum system, so consciousness still could be created artificially.

If you think, as most modern scientists do, that consciousness is somehow byproduct of random patricles which evolves through laws of quantum mechanics and natural selection and there is not much more to it,i would ask how it is possible that if fundamental reallity,which in view of quantum mechanics say that there is only wave of probabilities,how can something which is only posibilty give rise to something real as atoms and mater neverthless consciousness itself?could it be that it is other way around? it seems to me that if you really believe in quantum mechanic you would need to admit that there are no atoms at all,it is all mathematical construct we use.when you come down to it,atoms are made of nucleus and electrons and those of smaller and smaller particles,but last step they say so far is way of probability,so there are no atoms as little things or points of mater at all. But probability is mathematical construct and abstraction which can be used for calculation but it is not real thing as such.and without conscious observer that probability would never be realized. so it must be that consciousnes is much more important then they would love to admit.
Maybe treat consciousness as a dimension of space time and then feed it back through the model? Also, what if we treated unobserved waves as information that remains within its trackable changing states? The information would be able to maintain object permanence without being observed, and the act of observation would be less about collapsing the wave into particles, and more about projecting the the information into visible data during observation. Though the information may account for hypotheticals, it could have an absolute state during projection due to the optimal choice of data which would exist before any observation. The chosen data would be optimal because it best preserves its existence as it is being perceived by consciousness in the 4 remaining dimensions of space time. If the universe is “evolving” in a sense (as it expands into infinite variation), it could be using this method to prevent an overload of the existing system, and to self regulate object permanence. This self regulation could be a feature of consciousness as it acts upon the existing dimensions of space time. If the brain exists in all dimensions, individuality could very well be an illusion produced by the interactions between these dimensions as the brain attempts to make its calculations, consciousness would precede the brain, turning the brain into a focal lens that acts as a secondary clock, to which there may be more of across numerous layers of scale and complexity throughout reality. At the risk of anthropomorphism, the reason we might intuitively sense that the universe is alive is because we came from it, and we don’t exactly live in a vacuum. Awareness and intelligence may not be contingent on one another, and awareness may be measurable and a unitary dimension on its own.
Energy and matter have to be consciousness itself, or there would be no consciousness at all. Life is the will of the Universe manifesting itself, there is order and existence, because the Universe itself is willing it to be, by consciousness.
The brain has evolved to function on the quantum level.
Roger Penrose's delve into consciousness is a parallel descent into insanity with Linus Pauling's descent into insanity with Vitamin C. Orch-OR hypothesis was ruled out ages ago. Not only does tubulin not have the properties he requires of them, but alternate entanglement approaches using potassium fail to produce the properties Orch-OR requires.
He is a brilliant man, who absolutely earned the acclaim he is accorded, but who is is now a pseudo-science quack.

So let’s say that consciousness is a quantum-level activity occurring as a wave collapses within microtubules, producing this so-called conscious moment. Quantum mechanics, correct me if I’m wrong, suggests that all potential states exist before coming together upon a single moment. For example, Shroedinger’s cat is both alive and dead UNTIL the box is open. One of the key principles of nearly all major religions teaches us that life is full of potential opportunities and that we interact with it by choosing a path – discernment. Have these religions unwittingly – allegorically – described consciousness? It’s the quantum potential of an array of possibilities, brought to reality by a discernment – a choice?
We exist by direct reference inside the story that the ecosystem tells itself, that is why we know of the plants and animals. Your particular person emerged from its original fertilized egg cell, but the vivid knowledge of exactly how you look, or equally, the awareness of your particular person emerged over billions of years within the story of our ecosystem, so awareness of your particular person did not emerge within its brain. That implies I am the earth or universe, not one of its animals. My human mind is a creation of the mechanical world, its winds and waters. Intellect means to survive using available tools, which are only the winds and waters. If I can refer to myself then I exist briefly in a form. Later I will continually refer to myself and be aware or know from the constraint of continual reference to myself. Where is the data and impericism sir Penrose?
I can listen to him talk all day. I might only understand 2% of what he says, but I greatly enjoy it.
Evolutionary we just evolved from apes, with almost countless steps in between. Some how one step made it that one ancestor had a special kind of consciousness? It's just a very natural thing that comes in degrees. Problem being, we can't comprehend having the consciousness of lets say an ant or a cell even. But even within humans we have people with severe brain damage only able to eat and blink, do they have consciousness? It is wrongly used as another word for intelligence.
When you look at the small time humans evolved from the most simple forms of life, relative to the age of the universe, we are a very limited life form, trying to survive and not die. This said, when you look at the complexity of quantum theory, with rules we can't comprehend like superposition and time not being singular, we are too simple to ever understand. This is literally the reason we have 'created' gods, when something arises we can't understand, we have to just give it a name so we don't have to further investigate, and accept it.
Whatever quantum theory entails and the other rules of the universe, I would not find it unlikely that the current human life form will never be able to understand. However, I do know that we are able to comprehend more and more to a certain degree, just like we know understand gravity and relativity of time.
I don't see that there is a clash. You can explain how consciousness is classically expressed, but what is the ground by which that happens? It seems that perceiving consciousness as a priori is still not negated. Consciousness is that by which this happens.
This is how you merge both subjects of physics and consciousness, not like Deepak…
