Security Gets Smart with AI: A SANS Survey

Cylance Inc.

How do security professionals view artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool for helping to protect their enterprises? A new SANS survey will examine perceptions about the basic capabilities of AI for security and what technologies—including deep learning, various recognition techniques, machine learning and others—are considered part of AI for security.

The survey also examines whether, how and when security experts will begin implementing AI for security and how they intend to use it.

Join SANS Instructor G. W. Ray Davidson and SANS Senior Analyst Barbara Filkins for a deeper dive into these topics, along with recommendations about how to consider and potentially implement AI for security.

G. W. Ray Davidson, PhD, is the former Dean of Academic Affairs for the SANS Technology Institute. He continues to serve as a mentor, subject matter expert and technical reviewer for the SANS Institute and holds several GIAC certifications. Ray started his career as a research scientist and subsequently led global security projects for a major pharmaceutical company. He has taught at the college level and worked at a security startup. Ray currently works with clients to develop and implement network security monitoring and threat intelligence capabilities. He is also active in the leadership of the Michigan Cyber Civilian Corps.

Barbara Filkins, a Senior SANS Analyst, holds a number of SANS certifications, including the GSEC, GCIH, GCPM, GLEG and GICSP, the CISSP, and an MS in information security management from the SANS Technology Institute. She has done extensive work in system procurement, vendor selection and vendor negotiations as a systems engineering and infrastructure design consultant. Barbara focuses on issues related to automation—privacy, identity theft and exposure to fraud, plus the legal aspects of enforcing information security in today’s mobile and cloud environments, particularly in the health and human services industry, with clients ranging from federal agencies to municipalities and commercial businesses.

Bret Lenmark, Senior Product Marketing Manager, is responsible for positioning, messaging and enablement for the Cylance portfolio of products and has over 10 years of experience in cybersecurity sales and marketing with Intel, HP, Symantec and McAfee.
