  1. So it's basically being used as a mobile sensor array that can detect problems at all hours so the plant can run constantly with less chances of issues?
Sounds like a good idea, especially at older factories where adding a sensor network would be more expensive.

I would probably have two of them running though to have a "second opinion" system in case the first walk-by missed something.

  2. With today's my limited sight, if you can run a company well by human, you can run it better with robots. If you cannot run a company well by human, robots will make it even mess.

  3. Less staff cost = More profits.

Avoid having real staff with family's and personal issues, avoid people on the spectrum by 🚫 employing them.

  4. Cargill processes seed oils that go into our foods. BD's SPOT is being used in this process to make production and inspections "more efficient".

If businesses are not affecting our quality of life with seed oils, or taking some critical jobs away from humans, then what's the benefit of this tech other than to increase profit and to increase shareholder's dividends?

I'm not against Capitalism but maybe for every 10 SPOTs or 10 ATLAS' sold Boston Dynamics/Hyundai can donate 1-2 as caregivers to older or disabled people. Maybe even loaned out long term, at little to no cost, to NGOs around the world.

  5. So why not just retrofit the old machines with sensors? A thermal camera you can get for just over £100 for example. That also gives you a reliable datastream 24 hours a day. KISS.

  7. This is a great use case for Spot, but I hope you can continue to develop Atlas along the same lines. I have facilities that need 24h monitoring where we need something that interact with machines created to have human operators (in particular holding/carrying items), where Atlas would be much more useful than Spot.
