Correction on something I said in the video: Autism and schizophrenia do not negatively correlate, but they are (often) caused by opposite mutations on the same genes. It's fairer to say they're two sides of the same coin, than opposites.

I have a bonkers theory that something about the computational demands of throwing and hitting a target created the neural conditions for consciousness to arise. We are the only species that uses throwing effectively and it got us to the top of the food chain. It doesn't seem outlandish to me that all the calories spent and reaped from doing successful ballistic calculation had an impact on brain development.
I'm claiming this phenomena to explain imaginary friends

Literally nobody here has read Snow Crash?
Something this video (particularly the end) reminded me of personally is a little mental habit I've had ever since I was little. I'd often like to imagine that some historical figure (often my mind went to George Washington, but I think thats just because he was the first historical figure I could think of) had traveled through time or been somehow revived and that I now had to try my best to explain the wonders of modern technology, advances in our understanding of science, or the many changes in social norms that had transpired since his time, as a way to kind of satisfy my curiosity by really trying to think about how the world worked at a level one would understand without the context of living in the modern world. Now as far back as I can remember I always understood this to be a fictional story I was just playing out in my mind, but I also can't remember when I actually started doing this. I suppose its possible that when I started I genuinely believed I was explaining things to this historical figure. Perhaps this is a remnant of that bicameral mind, but more as you describe it in regards to theory of mind.
Hell, i still find myself doing it occasionally. It can be a fun exercise to imagine how you would explain the things we take for granted to someone so unfamiliar with it and the context its in.
Maybe this has nothing to do with that but I do find it interesting.
