Good. Some people will do anything to believe humans are more special than animals when it comes to conciousness. Sure, as he says; the degree of advancement is problem solving and language aspects, but we still all have the same types of conciousness I think. And yeah, after all humans are animals, so ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
Roger penrose is downplaying the mystery and importance of the gift given, bestowed, or evolved by or to humans. I think our consciousness is the only reason why we question our reality or believe in spirituality or possinle fundamental goodness, why we are unsure if physical death is the end of our "consciousness." Animals have emotions, even goodness, but not consciousness
Im not smart, especially compared to this gentleman here, but i think our consciousness isnt far superior to animals, but animals are absent in the level of conciousness humans have. Our consciousness is what makes us question the universe and is the only reason why we believe in spirituality and are cogniscent of how we have no clue what reality even truly is. Penrose (imo) is conflating consciousness with emotions. If there were no humans, there would be no reason to believe in spirituality or anything other than biological coincidence of nature and what not.

Beyond animals I believe that extraterrestrials have a the same kind of consciousness but longer live spans and there for even organically require more memory storage capacity and this are by default probably more evolved and definetly more advanced because longe lifespan signifies a higher level of intelectual development and probably forms of language and communication eg telepathy
I think on a level sub subatomic I wouldnโt be surprised that consciousness is the source of all physical Mather or for consciousness to even pre date Mather.
Consciousness is just ongoing thinking. When you're asleep, you are not conscious, except at a lower, disconnected level during dreaming. HOW is consciousness?- To me, that's the more interesting question.

I remember when I was a little girl and I'd go to sleep and I'd have out of body experiences and I'd feel myself floating up and I couldn't control it and I'd freak out. Later in life you get used to it and it's not terrifying anymore.

Maybe the Consciousness is super simple and it's just hard to not get dirty meaning attributes from the world from our experience from everyday life get entangled with our concept of the Consciousness necessarily

Penrose has said he suspects consciousness is not computable. To me that seems a pretty big statement for a mathematician, almost akin to believing in magic; if it can't be calculated it defies logic.
I suspect he's right and it's tied up in the uncertainty principle and incompleteness theorem.
Come on Joe…. You've experienced other entities… Invisible to the naked eye….. And it's written in our hearts to seek the spiritual world… Around the world it's no different. I don't believe we would have that drive if there was no God.. along with his myriads of angels…and then there is the other guy and his hoard….who would like for you to believe he doesn't exist….it's his strategy.
It's really nice to hear an experts Appliance of humility to our species which simply doesn't happen often enough we are frequently overly impressed with ourselves and way too quick to assume our innate superiority, I believe we have awesome potential as a species but that will not be achieved through arrogance self-righteousness and the Assumption of our innate superiority,
