Dinesh D’Souza, Christian and best-selling author, will face off against Tufts professor, author, and atheist Daniel Dennett in a debate on the existence of god. The resolution for the debate will be as follows: “God is a manmade invention.” Daniel Dennett will be arguing the affirmative, and Dinesh D’Souza the negative.

I used to have a little respect for Dinesh. I think it's almost gone… yep, there it goes.
He comments on the hubris of scientists denying things they can't see. Complete mischaracterization. The goal of science is to remain skeptical about one's current set of beliefs and data. Scientists are perpetual agnostics. Not to mention the hubris of doing precisely the opposite… which is believing in things you can't see. Dinesh, I have a strong urge to slap you.
It's insulting to his god that he'd bring up pascals wager. You'd submit only in fear, and God would KNOW you only submitted in fear, not belief, so you could go into heaven. I feel if he exists, with his wisdom, he would respect that you stood up for your beliefs weather your an atheist or not, yet still did good things, rather then submitting to pressure and putting on a veil of belief for a reward. If any of that makes sense. My 2 cents.

Aargh.. annoying miss representation; Dan and other rational people DO NOT "deny the existence of things for which they have no evidence", they simply "do not believe in them". The difference is subtle but extremely important. One person makes a statement of fact "god exists" you can either believe them, or not. If you do not, you are not saying the inverse "god does not exist" you are saying "I do not believe you when you say god exists because you have not given sufficient evidence"

"you only believe when you don't know" .. pure garbage. Knowledge and belief are not on the same scale as each other and you can have varying amounts of each independent of each other. A rational person's belief will track with their knowledge, an irrational person will believe with little/no knowledge informing that belief. We tend to form beliefs rapidly, this is necessary in some situations which require immediate action, we should then look for knowledge to confirm or refute that belief.

Something to fondle your synapses. Free will! What is it? Well let me tell you: the ability to choose beyond whatever you can conceive to be real and turn that prediction into your own internal cognitive creation. So… that being said, Why is it that because I have free will, I cannot play the harp?… Or the clarinet?… or solve advanced quantum probabilistic equations? I could go on forever. This logical approach is obvious: the idea of free will means mind over matter mirrors reality.
in other words, free will is bullshit… or we are ever evolving our escape from the boundaries of will: which more simply put are our own internal options we have access to choose from… which all are subject to change depending on the circumstances or randomness.
