An Oxford Philosophy Student talks about the Nature of Reality & Consciousness

Ali-Reza Omidvar

In this video, I first discussed why “the Hard Problem of Consciousness” is a pseudo-problem. Then, I attempted to give three arguments for the nondual and single nature of the world.

The first argument looked at our personal experiences and how all experience of the world is internal and subjective. This may be called the Vedantic method coming from the ancient Vedic Philosophy.

The second argument explored the implications of evolutionary game theory; namely, that, space/time and physical objects are like icons that help us towards survival and reproduction. Donald Hoffman’s Desktop Interface theory showed us how ‘Fitness Beats Truth’ when they compete for resources, survival and reproduction.

The third argument focused on the nature of deep states of meditation like Samadhi. This state of consciousness is nondual and void of subject/object distinctions. The role of introspection in scientific discovery is currently not on the table.
