aka Eeyore – Vocals
Josh Pinto – Guitar
Roger Millington – Bass
Manny – Drums

History
Formed in Acton, west London by Del and old school friend Rob Deacon who gave Del the encouragement to be the frontman. They called the band The Satellites because it had been exactly twenty years before that the Soviet Union had launched the World’s first Earth-orbiting Satellite, Sputnik

The original band members were:
Derek Gibbs – Vocals
Robert ‘Sneak’ Deacon – Guitar
John McCall/Johnson – Bass
Danny Heatley – Drums (1977 – 1983)
Jim Kane – Drums (1983 – 1984)
(ex-The Dark)
Amanda de Grey – Keyboards (1980)
(The Transmitters)

A photograph of Del spraying beer from a can with bass player John Johnson in the background wearing a swimming cap was used as the cover photograph for the Phonograph Records compilation album ‘New Wave’ in 1977. The album had songs by The Damned, Patti Smith, Dead boys and Richard Hell among others. Peter ‘Kodick’ Gravelle the photographer took the photograph in Covent Garden in the Summer of 1977 and is known for his work on record sleeves for The Damned, Chelsea and Generatiin X.

The Satellites played with a multitude of bands over the years including Rat Scabies’ White Cats, The Ruts, Crass, Adam & The Ants, Tubeway Army, The Lurkers, Misty In Roots, The Pack and Killing Joke to name just some of the many. Rat Scabies took a liking to The Satellites and produced their first two singles.

Del also produced the local fanzine ‘Sound Of The Westway’ with his friend Carol Clark who went on to write for The Melody Maker and was a champion of the ‘3rd wave’ of punk including The Exploited, Anti-Nowhere League and Discharge.
