Georgios Stampoulidis, Marianna Bolognesi & Jordan Zlatev: Metaphors on the cross-roads: A cognitive-semiotic framework to the study of Greek street art

In this video Georgios Stampoulidis discusses his work which focuses on metaphors in Greek street art by using concepts and methods from cognitive semiotics. He illustrates the significance of the terminological and conceptual distinction between semiotic systems (language, gesture and depiction) and sensory modalities (sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste), and thus, restricts the term multimodality to the synergy of two or more different sensory modalities in the act of perception and introduce the notion of polysemiotic communication in the sense of the intertwined use of two or more semiotic systems.

This video was filmed at The Creative Power of Metaphor conference held at Worcester College, Oxford on 29-30 March 2019. The conference was organised by Creative Multilingualism, a research programme funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. .
