Similarities and Differences Between Acrylic and Oil Paint

In today’s video, I’ll be sharing the key differences between acrylic and oil paint. All of these are things I wish I knew when I was first getting started and thinking about what kinds of supplies to invest in. Hopefully, this video will help clear up some questions and inspire you to start practicing your painting!

  1. Hey there, fellow artists and art-lovers! Thanks so much for visiting today! Have you used oils, acrylics, or both? If so, which do you like most and why? If you haven't, which medium are you most interested in and why? I'd really love to know. 🙂

  2. Hi Erika!! I love your popsicle painting, and your fabulous tutorial on the differences between oil and acrylic paint. You are helping many people with this information, especially the health and safety topics. I don't use any solvents in my oil paintings, I use the water mixable/water miscible version and avoid the cads- using "cad hue" instead as it is more healthy. All my best to you, my friend!!

  3. Great video, thank you for sharing!
I love both so much! I love oil when I have time to come back to a painting again and again, and acrylics I love for quicker paintings. I also love giving young students acrylics because its not "kid paint" and pushes them because they respect the material!

  4. Hi Erika! I hope you will be able to participate in my Green Gold Challenge group collaboration and spread the word to your subscribers to participate as well. It will be a great way to meet other YouTubers and see all the things which can be created with this tricky color! Hugs to you Erika!

  5. Do you know if the vibrancy of finished oil colours is dependent on the medium/solvents you used with it? Because I have found that oil colours for me always look much duller in colour than acrylics and that is one reason why I prefer acrylics (well that and the fact that it takes forever for oils to dry). Brilliant video Erika, I learned heaps ?

  6. Couple years ago when I painted I used mostly oil paint or tempera. I haven't known the acrylic technique yet. That's why I was happy for this video:) Beautiful ice creams performance dear Erika! Big like!
