The poverty of philosophy: Marxism vs. postmodernism

In Defence of Marxism

Postmodernism is very popular on university campuses, and has also gained an echo in the workers’ movement. This school of thought denies the very idea of historical progress. It echoes Henry Ford, saying “history is just one damn thing after another”. Scientific truth is also sidelined in favour of a ‘subjective’ emphasis on language, experience and identity. Where do these ideas come from, and what does Marxism have to say about them? Our speaker, Daniel Morley, is a leading activist of Socialist Appeal, the British section of the IMT.

  1. Uhh, do yall mean anarchism? The Philosophy of Poverty (which The Poverty of Philosophy was in response to) was by Proudhon. Proudhon is to anarchism what Adam Smith is to capitalism or Marx to communism.

History shows the political class become indistinguishable or sometimes worse than the bourgeoisie they fought against in post communist revolution states. NK, China, Russia etc etc

  2. Daniel Morley can be an excellent speaker and knows his stuff. This format clearly doesn't suit him. Get him in a format the does. An interview perhaps?

  3. 2:59:58 I think if you find "an apple that doesn't conform to these general rules", they are not really apples or we have to change the definition of Apple. Of course the usual definition of apple is accordind to the concept of species, which is more or less clearly defined, but this concept is arbitrary, there could also be a definition where a pear is also an apple but there could also a definition where an apple must be red, in this case e.g. a Golden Delicious would not be an apple.
