Weather BASICS explained (EASY to Understand) PPL Lesson 39

Free Pilot Training

This is what you need to know about weather as a private pilot! In this video, I explain the basic concept of weather and how it applies to pilots. In this video, I explain stability, fronts, Coriolis effect, and a bunch of other stuff you might see on your written exam! This is Private Pilot Ground lesson 39! This training is intended to follow the aeronautical knowledge areas in Part 61.105 section b for single engine aircraft.

  1. Thanks so much for this page. Because of this page, I passed my checkride today! I went though the Kings course and it really didn’t help me with alot of the complicated stuff. These videos are much more helpful than any of the reading or other videos I watched. I always instantly looked for videos from this page when I needed help with a topic and they were here!

Keep up the good work buddy. It’s really rewarding to see other pilots in here taking advantage of this page and succeeding too.

I definitely plan to use this as a additional resource someday for students I may have

  2. With all due respect to Sporty’s, this is a superior presentation than what is found in their ground school on aviation weather for private or instrument. Thank you for putting this together!

  3. Is it true that either stable or unstable still doesn’t have good weather ? With stable, we would have low clouds and poor visibility whereas unstable, we would have thunder storms??

  4. att 9 minutes is incorrect as tailwind will be cawse plain to be stall thatt why piloté taking off inn head-Winds, tale-Winde take off be dangerous

  5. 7:04 The air pressure gets HIGHER when the sun heats the air because it is expanding.
Additional pressure comes from water vapor as water evaporates.
    High pressure means good weather.
When water cools and condenses from vapor to droplets, the air pressure falls and rain results.
So low pressure means bad weather.

  6. Amazing video ever!! It is really simple and easy to understand. I had a hard time to understand and memorize all the weather and fronts part. Watching this video, I totally understand what it means now! I really appreciate it! I will come back to watch it again😊

  7. So, for clarification, warm fronts have a decreased ability to resist upward motion, making them less stable? And cold fronts are able to stay low to the ground, in other words, they have the ability to resist upward motions, making them stable?

  8. Well Done Thank You and didn't get any gas by watching an Informative and Educational video oh sorry for sending down cool air from Canada causeing Hurricanes on the east coast

  9. Thanks for the video! very helpful for my ppl!
You can calculate the cloud base even more easy. Spread x 400 = base of cloud in ft. If you want it in metres, Spread x 123 = base of clouds in m

  10. Can’t express how much this helped me. This section of ground schools was tough to connect all the information and you made it extremely easy to understand! Thank you

  11. The best explanation I've ever seen. So much information and presented so visual which makes it so easy to understand. Thank you for creating and sharing this fantastic video.

  12. Somebody help me with this:
-The air pressure is actually the weight of a column of air 1m2 from the sea surface up until there's air.
    OK?
-The more dissolved stuff the air has like water vapour, dust, sand, smog, clouds… the heavier it is. But mostly it's water vapour.
-The heavier the air is, the higher the air pressure is.
    OK so far?
So how come when the air is at its heaviest, full of water and clouds -you say the air pressure is low!?!?!?!?
And when the air is clear of clouds and water vapour-it's heaviest 'pollutant' – you say the air pressure is high!?!?
    Please explain!!!

  13. Best video about meteo on YouTube I’ve seen for last 3 years since started my education. THANK YOU SO MUCH☺️

  14. Oh, 12 whole years ago, I was an ATC trainee and had dedicated countless hours to mastering the complex world of meteorology, including its formulas and terminology. of course. Just imagine, with that video, I could've become the meteorological Einstein overnight and aced all my meteorology exams.😢

  15. Meteorologist here. A great basic weather tutorial. I always have great conversations about METARs, and other weather phenomena (like Coriolis, Hadley Cell, orographic lifting, types of clouds, microbursts, etc) when I come across pilots, marine people, etc. Remember: in high pressure situations, the air is sinking so because it is moving to higher pressure near the surface, it generally heats up. Imagine going from a room with a few people to full of people (high pressure–>lots of molecules)–it will feel warmer. In low pressure situations, warmer air at the surface rises and cools–and droplets form.

The cool thing about #weather is that you can simulate this in normal everyday situations.

For example: Put a warm coke can in the fridge and after a few minutes, you'll see the water vapor on the outside (#condensation ). Condensation is a heating process for the environment–>in the case of the coke, the heat from the warm coke is moving to the outside environment creating the droplets on the outside (heating the air around it). To the contrary, #evaporation is a cooling process for the environment–like when you get out of the shower and you feel cold (#evaporativeCooling ) Enjoy the lessons!

  16. This is a great video! I had a college course in weather and this video is literally the same stuff just condensed. As a pilot wannabe these types of videos explaining the basics in very simple ways is a blessing! A lot of other videos on the internet used jargon and just assume you know a lot of the material. Your contents amazing please keep it up!
