Decoding the Universe: Quantum | Full Documentary | NOVA | PBS

NOVA PBS Official

Dive into the universe at the tiniest – and weirdest – of scales.

Official Website: https://to.pbs.org/3CkDYDR | #novapbs

When we look at the world at the tiniest scales in the subatomic realm, things get weird – very weird. Welcome to the quantum universe, where particles can spin in two directions at once, observing something changes it, and something on one side of the galaxy can instantly affect something on the other, as if the space between them didn’t exist. Buckle up for a wild ride through the discoveries that proved all of this to be true and paved the way for the digital technologies we enjoy today – and the powerful quantum sensors and computers of tomorrow.

Correction: The original version of this film had misplaced punctuation, which falsely implied that in 1974, Stephen Hawking was the first to predict black holes. The film, captions, and transcript have been amended to clarify that in 1974, Stephen Hawking first predicted the phenomenon now known as Hawking radiation, referred to in the film as the “Achilles’ heel” of black holes.

  1. 💙 Love diving deep into the mysteries of the universe? Your support is the fuel behind every frame of NOVA. While the content is free, the rigorous, peer-reviewed science storytelling behind it is powered by you. Help us keep high-quality science accessible to everyone, everywhere. https://bit.ly/4cP0nZU

  2. As great and factually accurate the material is, the presuppositional worldview behind it will NEVER be able to tell what caused time space matter and energy to come into existence ex nihilo with extreme fine precision. Materialism is self limiting

  3. They are lying to you because they know themselves that the study of quantum physics and mechanics is the study of sequence it is not about random chance at all it's not that the cat and Schrodinger's box is either alive or dead it's the fact that you know there's a cat in there to begin with

  4. I just watched this video and I honestly don’t know how I feel anymore. For the past few months I’ve been quite passionate about science, but after watching this I know that I must find it all out

  5. Excellent and informative – refreshing to hear some physicists say that they don’t really understand some of the basics of quantum physics but that all the data reinforces the theories – so I am not alone. Refreshing to hear calm, reassuring commentary from a human not an AI creation sounding like a trailer for a for a Transformer movie. Thank you for improving my knowledge of the universe.

  6. If tou want to teach people things. Anything then don't add dramatic moronic music, they don't play music in classrooms or universities
Do you thing when Einstein was explaining general relativity in 1915 they were playing music in the background, NO THEY BLOODY WELL WEREN'T.

  7. The brahmanic religions thought of reality as ripples from an initial event. Parmenides thought of the fundamental nature of reality as sth that is and is not at the same time. Zenon thought that absolute space and time, motion and distances are illusions.
