Demystifying the Observer Effect: Neil deGrasse Tyson Explains | Joe Rogan Experience #JRE #919

Eye Opener

Join us on the Joe Rogan Experience as Neil deGrasse Tyson sheds light on the often misunderstood observer effect. From particles behaving as waves to the influence of measurement, Neil breaks down the science behind this intriguing phenomenon. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not about magic or consciousness but rather the act of measurement itself. Just as light reflects off objects allowing us to see them, the quest to determine the position of subatomic particles presents fascinating challenges. Discover the mind-bending implications of the observer effect and gain a deeper understanding of its role in the quantum world. #ObserverEffect #QuantumPhysicsExplained #NeildeGrasseTyson

  1. that doesnt really explain why it happens so instantly, they should get one of those super slo motion cameras to see if the atom is being pushed a different direction at the speed of light or if its just disappearing

  2. Sounds like it behaves differently so that IT CAN BE SEEN! If only the atom could be labeled at the begining and recorded at the end to be recorded what atom it is…

  3. That's great. Really. But how is it that the measurement of the particles changes the interference pattern? I still don't see how the pattern changes with observation.

  4. As defined in Wikipedia, In quantum physics, a measurement is the testing or manipulation of a physical system to yield a numerical result. Who or what is doing the testing or manipulation? Since it seems not to be AI or dark energy or who knows what, there must be an observer…a conscious being…right??? Or not? It’s called “ the measurement problem“ in quantum physics for a reason: it’s not even clear what the term measurement means in this theory.

Many modern physicists say that consciousness is an essential part of this system, even a participant. The blithe dismissiveness on the part of Rogan, who calls such people hippies, and Tyson, who is not a quantum physicist, belies the current state of uncertainty, so to speak, in this field.
While I admire Neil’s restless curiosity and brilliance in explaining complex science for the lay person, sometimes he seems to go overboard in this manner.
