A computer just passed the Turing Test in a landmark trial
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/06/09/a-computer-just-passed-the-turing-test-in-landmark-trial/
“‘Passing,’ however, doesn’t mean it did it with flying colors. For a computer to pass the test, it must only dupe 30 percent of the human interrogators who converse with the computer for five minutes in a text conversation. In the test, it’s up to the humans to separate the machines from their fellow sentient beings throughout their five-minute inquisition.”

The AI Revolution: How Far Away Are Our Robot Overlords?
http://gizmodo.com/the-ai-revolution-how-far-away-are-our-robot-overlords-1684199433
“Advances are getting bigger and bigger and happening more and more quickly… Kurzweil suggests that the progress of the entire 20th century would have been achieved in only 20 years at the rate of advancement in the year 2000-in other words, by 2000, the rate of progress was five times faster than the average rate of progress during the 20th century.”

Facebook’s Facial Recognition Software Is Different From the FBI’s.

“They argue that when someone tags you in a photo on Facebook without your consent, Facebook is breaking the law – and a federal judge has allowed the case to proceed. Facebook is hardly the only facial recognition technology that exists, but this company in particular is being challenged because its capabilities are so powerful.”

  1. abstract thinking and thinking out of the box. that what's make something really intelligent. machines for now only follow instructions and operate freely only within a range of predetermined parameters. the difference is: our brain is an ever changing hardware, it keeps on adapting and shaping in response to the environment and the experiences. we currently have no technology which is able and powerful enough to emulate such a thing.

  2. Ok so machines may become really smart one day, mimicking our own intelligence and beyond. But that doesn't make them sentient, self-aware, and capable of experiencing the spectrum of human emotion. So there will always be this crucial element of intelligence missing in AI machines.

  3. Well I think in years to come I think computers will have real intelligence.. Our dna  processes data  that is stored inside of it and I believe our intelligence and our consciousness is an act with the data inside of use. Look up integrated information theory.

  4. I hope AI will kill corrupt politicians..or imprison them if killing is a bit cruel. I also hope they will help a ton on engineering space rockets. And last but not least, making us produce anti matter on a much faster scale so we can step away from ancient fuel. But I fear I won't live to see that day.

  5. "Humans are programming the AI" Google neural nets, they learn without needing humans to explicitly code the skill they are training. All neural nets need is to be set up by humans. After that they train and develop an excellent skill.

  6. Why would AI enslave us? If it thought it could do a better job running the country, it'd just run for Parliament and convince us to vote for it.

  7. AI will have the maximum impact on human jobs…..that's the scariest part man. Imagine if AI can do intellectual jobs like of lawyers or judges or jobs like doctors. As it is they will be doing all the physical work for us in a few years. What will the humans do when AI does everything for the human??…..I think y'all should make a video on this. After all if people understand how life will be like under AI will they be able to accept it or reject it.

  8. …the 'human' compiled understanding is 'absolute' …computers are 'linear abstractions' of the absolute (ambiance) …humans 'want' (emotion) to KNOW …machines 'want' to be told what to see and then maneuver to 'that' point. Then 'remember' (train) macro applies sequence with noted differences and possibilities == probability without 'intending' potential (emotion) …a dog or cat has far more 'capacity' for logic (linear) than a computer which is only a linear production at best. Humans play chess, GO, soccer, to 'specialize' and isolate a best case scenario (Olympics) …not to be confused with 'real potential' (DREAMS) any study of somnambulism yields 'inspiration' of 'non sequential awareness' (absolute awareness)

  9. I'm not so much terrifyied of robot overlords as I'm of intelligent, yet ruthless and emotionless servants of human overlords that won't even hesitate to crush a baby if it suits their human overlords.

  10. I tested apples new AI in iOS 10. I tested it in the photos app and searched "cats" (because I own cats and I got a lot of photos of them) and it only got 1 out of 231 photos it recognized as cats wrong. I also tested the humans part but I guess their AI went into the technical side of things and include humans in the animal category because we are mammals so we are animals.

  11. Intelligence is problem solving. Generalized problem solving can be achieved eventually.

Eventually, we can probably program a computer to "act as if it is self-aware". (To avoid its own destruction, to behave with empathy for others, to make ethical decisions.)

But… would it then BE self-aware? And how would we know? And what difference would it make? If it is truly self-aware, should it be given rights?

  12. If you've ever seen the movie "Ex-Machina", then you'll know the only way for A.I. to exist is when a machine can both predict and manipulate the emotional responses of another human.

  13. I saw the other day there is now antivirus software for computers that supposedly uses some sort of AI and almost no significant computing power to detect never before seen threats. Seems kind of cool, but kind of scary AI is here already I would have said like 2030 or somehting.

  14. The question should be: What area can it enhance our knowledge and understanding other than just being a glorified calculator resembling it's makers! Robots we've had for some time, that's yesteryears knowledge. What would be nice is for all leaders to have a AI guide dog, when their decision is unlawful, unethitical or unconstitutional it will bite them in the arse. What is wrong are those advocating AI to be used offensively in the battlefields, rather than to help us help our selves in understanding our ancient past so we can move safely into the far future.

  15. I find it creepy that when I clicked this video the related videos tab that appears when watching a video is gone it just goes straight down to comments

  16. They cannot be the dominators. They work on electronic sircuits an we work on cells. Our one cell is way more complex than their sircuits. If our one cell is damaged it doesn't matter we will recover. Or more than one we will still recover but a damaged sircuits will lead to permanent damage or maybe stop the whole matchings.

  17. We can make A.I. specific for different tasks, as in:
Research, personal assistant, and maybe the most important one, to replace the government so we can eliminate errors, corruption, and emotional influence. (I can see the scary downside of a A.I. Government, but still….)
